What the heck is "Fal-Con", you may be asking? Read on...
The Typical Origin Story
Once, many a year ago.....
For a long time, the University of Montevallo Anime Club (otherwise known as the coolest club on campus) had been talking about starting a convention. All they came up with was a name: Fal-Con, taken from the UM mascot, the falcon. For years, the idea remained stale, sitting covered in dust (minus the occasional name joke)....
UNTIL NOW! Now, the University of Montevallo Anime Club has teamed up with the Montevallo Organization of Gaming to bring you Fal-Con, the newest anime convention to hit the Alabama circuit!
....But we need your help.
"An Anime Major with a Gaming Minor"
We want to bring to the Hoover area the best of the best in anime and gaming. We're planning on having lots of events, including a cosplay contest, AMV contest, Maid and Butler Brunch café, and much much more! We also want LOTS of gaming; card, board, video games, lots of tournaments, all that jazz! We've put our heart and soul into this and really want it to take off.
Currently, our projected audience is at or around 500. Alabama is a really convention-loving state and we have a lot of other great conventions here as well!
This has been a long-running dream of a lot of students. We've invested a lot of time and money into this convention and this is our chance to make it a reality. Every donation is appreciated so, so much.
Funding: Why We Need It and Where it Goes
As university students who have no outside help, we're strapped for cash. We need money to pay for a location contract and to pay for any guests who join us. Once we get the funds for our location contract, we'll be good to go! Guests are next on the list; we want to bring anything from local to national influences. How much we raise depends on who we bring. Any other funds raised will go to the upkeep of the website (which we are currently paying for out-of-pocket) and plans for Fal-Con 2015. We have some ideas for stretch goals, but we gotta hit that first goal first!
All money you donate will help TREMENDOUSLY, even if it's just a small amount. Of course, we have some cool rewards, and all rewards will be given at the convention itself.
Even if we don't hit our goal, the con WILL GO ON. We as the con chairs promise this to you. We are going to make it work, we have worked so hard to make this project a reality.
