WHO WE ARE

We’re David and Kathi Peters, a husband and wife team, and our company is Global Story2 Films.  I, David, have been a filmmaker since the day I picked up a Super 8 camera as a little tyke.  I have a Masters Degree in Cinema Communications and have been a professional filmmaker for over 30 years.  Kathi joined me in our film company after wandering in the business wilderness for far too many years.  We love working together!

We share a passion for storytelling.  Most people enjoy a good story, especially one that makes them feel hopeful and encouraged.  There are people all over the globe who are making a difference in the lives of those who have no voice, who are marginalized, who cannot help themselves.

We tell their stories.

Find Me is a story near and dear to our hearts.  International adoption is sacrifice, love and courage, all rolled into one beautiful, world-encompassing hug.

Regarding international adoptions, we typically know one side of the story.  We want paint a much broader picture of the beauty of Chinese adoption.  The entire cast of characters is crying out to be celebrated!

We need to get back to China.  Our contributors will enable us to do that, to finish filming the next chapter.  Because of their support, we’ll be there to capture behind-the-scenes footage of those who take care of these little ones before they’re adopted and the very moment a little girl who desperately needs medical intervention is placed in the arms of her new mom and dad.

HERE'S OUR GOAL

We are seeking to raise $10,000.  This will cover:

  • our plane tickets
  • hotels
  • food
  • in-country travel
  • equipment rentals
  • Visas
  • Local cinematographer
  • Film crew

Should we not reach our goal, we will take whatever funds we raise and somehow figure out how to get to China anyway!

SOME ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND

Our guess is that our greatest number of contributors will be come from the adoption community.  Adoptive families understand the power of these stories.  They tell their own personal stories to friends and even strangers on an almost-daily basis.  They desire that the picture of adoption we create is a true and inspirational one.  We want to honor that desire, especially for the three families in our film.

The three families that (at this point) we’re planning to feature are:

Nate and Jen – They have two biological sons, and have adopted a daughter, Hayley, from China.  They are in process of adopting a special needs son from China.

Kim and Merle – Kim and Merle have two biological sons and three biological daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter.  They have adopted two half brothers whom they first fostered, then adopted domestically.  They are in the process of adopting a special needs daughter from China.

Christianne and Jeremy – They have two biological sons and one biological daughter.  They have adopted six special needs children from China and are in the process of adopting another special needs son from China as well.

We know that there are contributors who won’t adopt, but they have resources they desire to channel into projects like ours.  They have the desire, as we do, to support the grander narrative of adoption, to create opportunities for children beyond their wildest imaginations.

OUR PROJECTS ARE ACTUALLY MAKING IT OUT THERE!

It’s obvious that we’re on to something.  We were taken by the adoption story of the couple in the trailer, Nate and Jen, (they’re the ones who describe how they discovered the nanny of their adopted daughter crying in the hallway).  Loving the whole adoption concept, we volunteered to document their story.  We put it up on YouTube, and as of this date, we have very close to 75,000 views!  Not what you’d deem viral, but it shows that people all over the world are fascinated with adoption too.  We feel very gratified by its success, and we regularly receive comments about how the film has touched people.

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, we created a half-hour documentary about the rescue of a critically ill newborn.   Mackenson has since been adopted by The Hands and Feet Project, run by Christian recording artist, Mark Stuart.  We since created a music video of the story.  For over three years now, both the documentary and music video have been shown at concerts and fundraisers to raise support for orphaned children.

WHAT MOTIVATES US

Many of us have heard The Star Thrower, the story of a young woman throwing individual starfish that had washed up on shore back into the sea.  When questioned about the impact her efforts could really make, the young woman bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves, saying, "It made a difference for that one."

Stories of adoption warm our hearts.  That a person or couple would choose to, maybe even sight unseen, take a child into their home and raise that child as their own is touching and admirable.  Adoptive parents make a difference for that one child.

Most of what is considered “news” isn’t the kind of stuff that makes us feel good.  When we hear or see a feel-good story on the news, we often say to each other, “Why aren’t there more stories like that?”

Fred Rogers (of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood) once said, “When I was a boy, and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers.  You will always find people who are helping.’  To this day…I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

The adoption world is full of helpers.  The nannies, orphanage workers, foster parents, adoptive parents, adoptive siblings, all of them are beautiful people whose stories need to be told.

Our objective in creating this film is not specifically to promote Chinese adoption, but we feel fairly certain that amongst those who view the film there will be some who are contemplating adopting a child who will make the decision to do so.  There will be others who will have no idea that adoption is in their future in whom the seed will be planted.  For those Chinese children, they’ll be, like the starfish, the one for whom that difference is made.

And that is why our project is valuable to the world.

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP

Not everyone has the money to donate toward our film, but maybe you know someone who can. The more people who know about this film, the better chance we’ll have of raising the funds we need.  Here are some suggestions:

  • Like us on Faceboook Find Me Movie
  • Post about it on your facebook page
  • email a link to as many people as you can
  • Share face to face

Whatever you can do to help us get our campaign in front of people, we’ll take it!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for doing this.  And don’t forget to use the indiegogo share tools.
