Update 4/3/2013: You are all amazing! We flew past our goal in less than 12 hours!! Let's keep the support rolling in for Sub Rosa!!

Around midnight on 4/3/2013, RVA Firefighters responded to a fire at Sub Rosa Bakery in Church Hill, RVA.

The fire, which is believed to have started accidentally, destroyed much of the apartment on the second floor of the historic building. Although the fire did not enter the bakery on the first floor, it was thoroughly soaked as firefighters battled the blaze and officials have since condemned the building.

The owners, Evin and Evrim, have been gracious neighbors since Sub Rosa opened on 25th Street in December of last year. Their devotion to the community has breathed new life into Church Hill, drawing folks from all over the city to try their incredible breads and pastries, or to simply enjoy conversation with neighbors over an espresso.

Thankfully, the business is well-insured, but there will still be significant out-of-pocket costs to support the displaced tenants and staff get the bakery up and running.

Over the next 60 days, let's let Sub Rosa know that we have their backs. We've set a goal of $5,000 but let's beat that. Thank you in advance.

(About me: I am not affiliated with Sub Rosa Bakery. I am a neighbor at 605 N 25th St. going through sour cherry and pistachio croissant withdrawl. I spoke with Evin prior to launching this campiagn and got their permission. All funds raised will go directly to Evin and Evrim (minus a small fee from Indigogo) and they will decide how to allocate across the business and the tenants.
