It is with greatest remorse that I inform you we have decided to cancel the GameStar Indiegogo campaign. There were numerous questions and claims as to why it was not available on Kickstarter. Because of Indiegogo's Flexible Funding policies, we could not cancel the campaign or give the funds back immediately.
In the case you were one of our esteemed earliest supporters, we will give you the choice to keep your perk for the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, or a full-refund. As a sign of gratitude for your belief in our project, we would like to present you with a digital portrait, songs, and exclusive art from our game, whether you decide to keep your contribution or not.
This is an unfortunate turn of events that we did not expect. The staff at Indiegogo were very pleasant to work with. Perhaps for gaming it does not yet have the acceptance of players worldwide. We encourage you to check out other great interesting game projects here.
We would like to give a very special thanks to you, early enthusiasts, to the IGDA for believing in this project, and to Mr. Inocima from Square Enix, for his continued support. Moving the campaign to Kickstarter will not guarantee success, but we hope that it will do better than here. We are not ready to let this dream go!

GameStar is the
most recent indie game by Yuan Works. It tells a very unique story set in a
video game world. What if someone from
say, Halo was thrown into the Mushroom Kingdom? How would he survive? What would he
learn there? What would he find? Hopefully, we'll see what happens!
We have working prototypes for Android
and iOS, but we'd like to bring it to OUYA, other consoles, and PCs! We're
also filming a high definition
documentary, because we want to share how we made every part of the game!
Who knows, perhaps you will learn how to create games, too!

OF COURSE IF ANY OF THIS HAPPENS, IT'LL ONLY BE THANKS TO YOU! Without your support, we cannot assure you that we'll be able to
create the game we dream, much less to bring enhanced versions to your favorite
consoles. But we're very positive and believe in this project!

WHO WAS... YUAN WORKS AGAIN?
Two guys who made
indie games like Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles. That no one knows about. But
have won awards. And stuff. Founded by two Taiwanese-Costarican brothers, Yuan-Hsi and Yuan-Hao Chiang.

Now
Yuan-Hsi Chiang is leading a team of young creators in Costa
Rica to make this new game happen! Hopefully with your
support, we'll be able to add talented new members!

WHAT'S THIS "GAMESTAR" THING?
Lately, many games
out for mobiles and even the OUYA tend to be of a single mechanic. Of course,
we like casual games, too. But we wanted to create memorable characters, a
well-thought story, and a sense of immersing in an adventure. Something a
little beyond slashing fruits and throwing birds.
![]()
And thus, we've
been working on GameStar. A game that tells a very particular story, about a
modern-day full-3D character who, by accident or fate, has to wander into a
mystical world, where ancient ruins of the “2D” civilization still exist. Where
swords and sorcery replace guns and technology.

Younger players
will experience a time in video game history that they may have missed, and
veterans will go on a trip to hopefully relive and create new great memories!
In the battle of the planets, which will prevail? The modern 3D world, or the
ancient 2D culture?

WHY INDIEGOGO?
In order to create
the experience we envision, with animated cut-scenes and many varied forms of
play, as well as to bring this to OUYA, PCs and even other consoles, we are in need
of your support! IF YOUR
PERK INCLUDES THE GAME, YOU GET EVERY VERSION FUNDED. FREE. PERIOD. Even if you help us with one dollar,
we'll be profoundly grateful. And for five, we'll give you this pic of the game's
director so you can create all kinds of crazy memes at the expense of his
self-esteem!!
![]()
WHAT IF YOU GET OVERFUNDED?
All the extra
funding will go towards creating a fuller, much closer vision to the dream we
have. We don't intend to change the original story and pacing. It is to add all
the extras necessary to make the experience more endearing. For instance, our team can create even high-quality 3D cinematics. All we're
missing is the financial support. And it would be great to add everyone's
favorite console, but it is impossible without the extra stretch.

AND THE VISUALS AND DESIGN?
Even though we're
indie, we have a very “academic” approach to game crafting. We like to start with more traditional
arts, like sculpture and illustration, etc., before heading to the computer to
create everything digitally. Exploring many concepts, taking our time with
design, storyboards... Really trying hard to breathe life into the universe we
want to share with you.

WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC?
We loved the music
in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The variety, the quality of the mixing;
everything was absolutely gorgeous. Music plays a very important role in the
experience, and will range from 8-bit chiptune, to glorified 16-bit FM “Genesis” style sound, to acoustic
studio-recorded music. Even a combination everything! All by local talented
composers and performers, including the amazing work of César Tovar! With
additional caliber by Max Esquivel, Tony Masís, Alejandro DiMare, and Yuan.
This is a little sample of what will set the mood in GameStar:
So do we. The
script and design documents are written in a very conservative format, by
Yuan, who teaches screenwriting at a local college. We have a story
with a definite message and ending. However, how much we can explore that world
and submerge the player in its vast richness depends on how many resources we
count on.
Yes, and why not!
We've been documenting the whole process in HD quality already, anyway. The
video above should give you an idea of the quality the film will have. Just
watch it in HD.
Oh, yes we do!
Back in our Wind and Water days, we offered a “custom sprite” which was extremely popular with
fans.
