(UPDATE: Mar. 25th, 2014)
MORE GUEST STARS!

(UPDATE: Mar. 21st, 2014)

ONE WEEK LEFT. HERE'S AN UPDATE. LET'S GET BOLD (FONT).

First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated and pushed Geek Cred along. We wouldn't be as far as we are without you. You all have Geek Cred!

On Feb. 5th we launched this campaign. I wasn't out to reinvent the wheel. I simply wanted to offer a version of what we all see every night on primetime, only... for us!

The idea is simple. Geek Cred is a workplace comedy similar to Parks & Rec, It's Always Sunny and Brooklyn 99 only.... set in a comic book store. We put together a campaign and planned out perks that we knew we could deliver on (coming SOON, I swear!). Well, it didn't crack the internet in half. We've listened to the critiques and message received. Despite the expert filmography of our crew (www.bealsebub.com, www.thosb.com,www.micheleboyd.com, www.thewerobertson.com, www.mileyyamamoto.com,https://www.facebook.com/Damionpoitier, www.zak-white.com) everyone needed MORE.

Here's the new plan.

We have ONE WEEK left to raise as much money as possible. If we can reach $10,000 in the next week, we've all got a shot at greatness.

We're going to shoot FIVE episodes (out of TEN already scripted) and show everyone exactly where your money is going and exactly what type of show we have in mind. Our cast is the same -- Michele Boyd, Wes Robertson, Damion Poitier, myself and Miley Yamamoto, starring as employees and customers at a comic store. Guest starring within this first season is Jim O'Heir from Parks & Rec (if you haven't seen him in Mediating Kidnapper, you haven't SEEN HIM), Andrew Cudzilo from The House on South Bronsons, actor/ writer Jameel Saleem, UCB's Dax Herrera (recently seen in mine and Zak White's short film Artistic License) and a few more surprises soon to be announced.

We have ONE WEEK left on our campaign and we'd love to get as close to $10,000 as possible to ensure that we deliver the best five episodes you've ever seen. We plan to represent our community just right.

Help me show everyone who goes and watches Avengers but doesn't walk into a comic shop afterwards to pick up an Avengers comic that they are missing out.

Help GEEK CRED reach $10,000 within the next week.

Geek Cred. EVERYONE'S got some.

Please repost the link to our Indiegogo campaign (http://igg.me/at/geekcred) and brag about your involvement and seeing the show come to fruition. Any assistance in rallying the troops is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for all of the love and support.

-DB

(UPDATE: Mar. 3rd, 2014)

WWW.GEEKCREDSERIES.COM is now LIVE!

(UPDATE: Feb. 21st, 2014)

We're excited to be working with him.

NOW THEN... Enough updates. Let's get to the campaign itself.

"It's Finally Happening. A TV Series For ME!"

How right you are. You may not even realize it yet.

Bealsebub Entertainment and Machine Gun Turtle have teamed up to produce GEEK CRED, a scripted workplace comedy series set within a comic book store, celebrating what it means to be a fan of comics and... well, at its heart; a fan of anything!

We're The League but with comics instead of sports, or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with less alcohol consumption and more quandaries of space and time and Fresca, or perhaps more appropriately... Geek & Sundry's The Guild... FOR COMICS. If you grew up reading comics and continue to do so today, this will be the show for you. If you didn't grow up reading comics, this will still be the show for you.

• In high school, while working at Comics Plus in Farmington Hills, MI, Daniel thought to himself, "the people here are hilarious. Someone should make a show about THIS PLACE." That was 1994. Today, after writing, producing and directing multiple short films of his own (check out his filmography), he is making that little high school boy's dream a reality. Comics rule! Now everyone will know it.

• Producing and starring in RETCON, her own crowdfunded action sci fi pilot, was a hard smack of reality across the face. So much so, that manga lover Miley (pronounced "Mee-lay") has decided she'd like to feel that sensation, that adrenaline rush of geek joy, again! Let's all help her feel the love.

• Pursuing her studies in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from UC Davis didn't prove challenging enough so Michele turned to performing. Since then she's appeared on Sons of Anarchy, FlashForward and How I Met Your Mother and co-founded Team Unicorn. All of this led to Michele being named one of GeekWeek's "10 Hottest Geek Girls"! She's clearly in need of MORE cred and we're happy to have her aboard the GEEK CRED train.

• A geek from the moment of conception, Damion began his professional career early on, playing Doctor Doom and a Ghostbuster at Universal Studios, before breaking into the stunt world on such shows as Firefly, Dollhouse and Star Trek. He catapulted effortlessly into acting from there. As a storyteller, scholar, warrior, geek... his plan to perform in more things that you love knows no limits. You have been warned.

• Wes Robertson is an LA based actor/writer by way of South Georgia. Thanks to Gary Larson, SNL, and being the fat kid in middle school, he is here entertaining people. You might recognize him from commercials for Chase, Fruit Gushers and Natural Light or the podcast he co-hosts, www.worstshowontheweb. Never look him in the eye while playing Trivial Pursuit. He loves comic books and hates clowns.

• Having shot 3 full seasons of The House on South Bronson and many of Daniel's short films, Paul brings knowledge, experience, professionalism and a style all his own that will only benefit the kinetic comedy of GEEK CRED. He's a big fan of The Maxx!

• From the moment he was a child, dancing to his father's Indiana Jones record, Fernando knew he was destined for a love affair with music. Now an accomplished video game and film composer, Fernando has scored most of Daniel's shorts and looks forward to bringing the manic adventures of comic shop employees to life. Though he's not certain how concerned he should be when Daniel assures him that they will work together until one of them dies. Check out Fernando's website.

• A famed comic writer known for his runs on Manhunter, Batwoman, The Illegitimates, Captain America, and Fairest, Marc consulted jokes and stories in the writers room and helped to keep us honest. There's a little bit of Andreyko in every episode. And vice versa. (Rumor has it he may even be swayed to write an episode...)

• Dean is drawing some pretty cool original comic book material to be featured in GEEK CRED. Below is but a taste. Check out more of his art on his website

• A costumer on the hit series CASTLE, Artemio will construct specialty costumes that play during the season. Looking at costumes he's constructed for various Halloweens, you'll get a sense of some of the craziness yet to come.

• We're shooting in A REAL STORE!!!

Making this show is going to be tough but we've managed to assemble an amazing team of creative professionals to help us see our goal through and bring you a show with an offbeat sense of humor all its own.

Everyone here has been generating their own content for years now, whether through Team Unicorn, The House on South Bronson, Back to One Films, or just on their own. We're a crew with extensive production backgrounds and we all know how to give you high quality entertainment.

We're producing TEN episodes of GEEK CRED (roughly 5 to 8 minutes apiece) for our first season, which breaks down to about $3000 per episode budget-wise. All donations will go towards creating the show; renting equipment, props, wardrobe, paying crew and cast, and the numerous forms of promotion that will be required to ensure that GEEK CRED is a success.

And we're doing this all before Comic Con 2014. That's in July. Yeah. We're producing, shooting, editing and airing ten full episodes of comedy gold through our impending site www.geekcredseries.com within the next six months.

This is some of the craziness you can expect in season one:

  • An assassin... of inner monologues
  • Cheez whiz catastrophes
  • Batcleavage
  • Stolen comics!
  • Murder!!
  • Crimefighting Cosplayers
  • Post-apocalyptic air conditioning!
  • An entire romantic comedy in 8 minutes!
  • Terrorism by way of fanboy criticism!
  • Tommy Lee Jones! (*not actual Tommy Lee Jones)
  • All of the customer types that you can imagine - yes, all
  • An epic season finale that promises to change everything!!
  • Aquaman sideboob

What Does Your Donation Go Toward?

To give you a sense of how far a dollar can go, Daniel produced his film OLD RIVALRY for $5000 and all of that was used to rent equipment, buy food and props, fund the promotional campaign and then enter numerous film festivals. Every last cent got spent.

Besides relying on amazing friends and favors, where we're actually saving cost is in our scheduling and the fact that we're block shooting our entire season in a confined amount of time (That's right, we're stealing from the Brits!). This will allow us to keep our costs for renting equipment down thanks to special rates and ensure that each episode is released through our website in a timely, weekly schedule beginning in late May.

Now, we know what you're thinking, "Is Comic Con as scary as it looks on television and the internet?" The answer is yes, Grandma, it is. But it's also amazing! There's no environment nor fanbase quite like it. We also know that your real question is, "What's in this for ME, the donor?

Our perks are loaded with accolades and treats for the most generous of generous. On our website, there'll be a special page labeled WALL OF HEROES. On top of earning the adoration of a small nation (hereby dubbed "GEEK NATION"), EVERYONE who donates will get their name up on this wall in one of these fancy, shiny name plates!

We're also giving away cool wallpapers for your computer, tablets and phone devices as well as wallpapers you'll be able to use to deck out your facebook pages, letting everyone know you've got GEEK CRED.

PLUS:

BUT!!! On the off chance that we do not reach our funding goal, whatever amount we DO raise will determine how many episodes within the season we actually produce. It's up to YOU to determine how much GEEK CRED you want to see.

And NATURALLY, everything we make OVER our goal will go straight to enhancing our series in every way possible, usually in post production and promotional materials.

If we exceed our $36,000 goal, we immediately start aiming for our STRETCH GOAL of $70,000. This is the real money that will allow us to put an extra sheen on the paint job. Not only will we be able to make the show look insanely well produced and better represent our community, but we'll extend our season by 2 EPISODES!!

They say make what you know and we know that no one has yet made a scripted show about what we know in the way that we know it. Ya know?

Workplace comedies have been the norm since television began so WHY NOT set one in a comic book store? The environment is rich for comedy and rife with wacky characters. Yes, there've been web series in this same vein and we're excited to be in their company. But the landscape has changed and for the first time since web content starting getting produced, it's all being taken a little more seriously. People in charge are paying attention and the line between "web" and "television" has blurred almost to the point of nonexistence thanks to streaming outlets like Netflix, Hulu, Microsoft and Amazon.

We're in a place now to make a show on our own, at the behest of our audience, that CAN stand shoulder to shoulder with all of the comedies you see on primetime television. That's what we're aiming for with GEEK CRED, creating a show that can get a seat at the big kids' table.

And besides, who better to make a comedy ABOUT comic fans FOR comic fans than.... COMIC FANS? Yes, every member of our cast legitimately reads, collects and enjoys comics. To say this is a labor of love is an understatement.

Do you love sports, fashion, board games, hunting, Nascar, woodworking, knitting, cat sweaters, ONLY Jason Statham movies? If you love and enjoy something so much it annoys other members of your family or friends, or if you've loved and gotten joy from something so often and so heavily that your friends look at you sideways, congratulations, YOU'RE A GEEK. This show IS for you and it's definitely ABOUT you!
