We enjoy games like Monkey Island or Broken
Sword. Like creators of those games, we also have a story to tell. A story about
a geeky science student struggling through real life who is faced with an
adventure of a lifetime.
We are making the game really fun. There
are not just funny comments and scenes as in most of the other point and click
adventure games. Conversations resemble the ones from popular movies and
series, sometimes in a different context bringing them to new dimensions. There
are situations in the game that are like real-life situations and everyone can
relate to. Check the movie clip below to get an idea!
If you are at least a bit geek you
will find yourself in situations similar to what you have experienced, remember
the awkwardness or silliness and laugh about it. In our experience the things
that you can relate to or happened to you are the most funny. We want to make
you laugh.
In the
game, you play a geeky science student Peter Frog using traditional point and
click mechanism. You can interact with almost any object in the scene as well
as talk to anyone. What is more, Peter Frog can combine objects in the scene.
For example, a cup and water pipe can be combined using drag and drop to make
Peter Frog fill the glass with water. Note that the cup is not in the
inventory. This opens even more possibilities for puzzles. We try to make all,
even not so meaningful interactions and combinations, possible, at least
resulting in a funny remark.
If goal is unlocked, we will be also adding another feature to the gameplay. It is called flash forward and revert. The mechanism is simple: if you try something awkward or something that would result in your end, the sequence would be played normally. At the end, however, there would be a fast playback to state before you did this awkward/wrong thing. This will bring even more fun to the game!
We have
been working on Geek's Lair: The Crazy Scientist for 10 months already.
Starting from nothing, a great progress has been made and the game is nearly
complete. We have been working hard!
The game
still needs polishing though. Some interactions are not in place yet and not
all animations are working as they should. Most of the conversations are
written but we need voice actors to read them out loud. We also want a really
good theme music that we can't do ourselves. Last but not least, in order to port
and test the game thoroughly on different platforms, we
need to buy hardware and software. We don't want to publish half-polished
product with bugs that doesn't work on some platforms as expected. With your
support, we will make game that you want us to make!
2.400€ - buy professional licence of the game engine Unity Pro. It will enhance performance (dynamic batching), make animations better (inverse kinematics) and allow for some other visual features. 2.000€ - hardware for testing and porting. 2.000€ - hire studio and voice actors. 1.600€ - create theme music. 1.000€ - rewards and shipping. 1.000€ - Indiegogo and Paypal fees.

We kept the
team intentionally small so new ideas can be exchanged rapidly and we can work
side by side. No bureaucracy, just brotherly love. We sometimes fight but five
minutes later, we are working as if nothing has happened.

We would
also like to thank our friends for ideas and support. Most of all, we would
like to thank all contributors – YOU - for making our dreams come true and
spreading the word about Geek's Lair: The Crazy Scientist.
We have developed a large portion of the game and succesfully tackled with every obstacle we have encountered. Apart from music and voice recording (which we have tried already and works, we just need voice actors), the story of the game just needs completion and the game needs some further polishing.
Even though this is our first professional project, we have worked on many projects like smaller games (puzzles, 3D space shooters), game engines (ZeusEngine, BaadEngine, SharpMedia) and complicated numerical school projects. We have nearly 10 years of experience in this field. All that said, we are confident that Geek's Lair: The Crazy Scientist will become a game for true adventurers. The only con is that we might not finish the project by the end of 2013 if some major issue arises, or more features than expected are implemented. This is especially true if the funding goal is not reached. But fear not, the game will be made!
What platforms will Geek's Lair: The Crazy
Scientist run on?
It is currently working on Windows and
Android. We plan to port it to iOS soon. Other platforms are easily possible
with enough funds since we are using Unity engine that has support for almost
all of game platforms out there.
When will the game be released?
We plan to release the first version by the end ob 2013.
Will the game be available in other
languages?
In the core version, probably not. However,
if stretch goals are reached or we find a volunteer to translate game to
another language, we would happily include it. Voice acting in other languages
is also dependent on stretch goals.
