Introduction:
GloTech is raising funds to produce its next generation of illuminated eyewear. Two variants of the same product are being produced, the futuristic GloSpex Unoh and the more traditional GloSpex Visah.
For the past two years GloTech
has been developing technology to selectively illuminate the exterior surface of a
lens. We call this patented technology One-Way See-Through Illumination. Last
year, we released an introductory version of GloSpex called the Introh. Subsequently, we received
significant customer feedback. We used this feedback to improve our technology
and designs. Foremost, our customers wanted higher clarity lenses that worked
better in multiple lighting conditions, a sleeker look, and USB rechargeable
batteries. GloSpex Unoh and Visah incorporate these changes. First, to facilitate a
sleek look we miniaturized our electronics, putting all functionality on a
chip. We then shrunk the size of our light-emitting pixels to improve lens clarity.
Next, we added anti-reflection coatings and a dimmer switch to minimized
unwanted light reflection that was visible during night conditions. Finally, our new design provides for
interchangeable lenses. This allows you
to easily install lenses of different colors as well as lenses that display a
graphic or logo. The result is a premium product that makes you
look bright, day or night.
Having completed our development tasks, we’re now ready to bring the next generation of GloSpex to market. Our design is production ready. We are seeking funds to produce the initial 1,000 units of GloSpex Unoh and Visah. We are manufacturing the GloSpex lenses in the United States. The electronics and frames are being manufactured in China.
Campaign funds will be used to pay for tooling (molds) and GloSpex production. GloTech is a small company that develops consumer goods that feature new illumination technologies. We’re seeking your help to not only launch this product but to generate interest in our One-Way See-Through Illumination technology, which we believe can lead to numerous products including window based illumination (imagine illuminated skyscrapers) and new ways to make low-cost illuminated signage. We welcome your participation in our journey to change the world’s nightscape and would greatly appreciate your support as we seek to implement our bright vision.

GloSpex Beat
![]()
GloSpex Beat illumination Controller. It's an IR transmitter and app that controls GloSpex illumination. It enables DJ and EDM fans to produce a GloSpex light show. GloSpex Beat plugs into the headphone jack of a MAC iOS or Android compatible device, such as a tablet, cellphone or laptop. It will ship with a 6 ft extension cord and mini-mic stand.
GloSpex Beat is a personal GloSpex controller. Designed for DJs, GloSpex Beat is best used when aimed at an individual set of GloSpex. However, GloSpex Beat will support one, or more, IR "room blasters" that are capable of broadly transmitting an IR signal across a venue.
GloSpex Beat has a 75 foot transmission range. Beat's app includes a playback timeline that features: start/stop, dimming, and pulse rate. Regular price is $65. Contribute now and save $33.
Perks:
Our perks are simple. We’re seeking
pre-orders of GloSpex Unoh or Visah to assist us in funding initial production. Our core perks are listed below. There will also be some limited specials.
GloSpex Unoh or Visah: $35
Our main perk is a $40 discount on a set of GloSpex Unoh or Visah.
For helping us bring these products to market, you will receive $40 off the $75
retail price. This means you will get a premium set of GloSpex Unoh or Visah for just
$35 dollars.
GloSpex Unoh or Visah with 3 Lenses: $50
Also, since GloSpex lenses are interchangeable, your other
option includes buying a GloSpex Unoh, or Visah, with a red, green and blue lens set. You
can buy this item for $50. This represents a $50 discount from the $100 retail
price.
GloSpex Beat: $32

Guide
Technology:
The core invention behind one-way see-through light
emission involves applying reflective pixels to one side of a light guide, a
light guide being any optically clear material capable of transmitting light
via the physics principal known as Total Internal Reflection. These pixels are
angled or coated with a light diffusive material to promote efficient light
emission.
A successful implementation of this technology requires small pixels that
do not impede vision, plus one or more means for addressing unwanted reflection
of the light from the front surface of the lens back into the eyes of the
eyeglass wearer.
![]()
Figure 5: Light trapped by Total Internal Reflection is emitted by GloSpex pixels
To make the smallest possible light-reflecting pixel,
GloTech currently employs new screen-printing technology to produce a 0.0015”
wide pixel/line. This line results in a high clarity lens that appears as a
fine, barely visible mesh to the GloSpex wearer. Currently in R&D, GloTech
is working on producing a 15 micron (0.00059”) pixel that is invisible. We look
forward to bringing this lens to market in 2015.
A major technology challenge in perfecting
see-through illumination is reducing unwanted reflection. Reflection is not
absolute. A small percent of the light emitted by GloSpex pixels reflects
backward off the front lens surface. Ironically, during daylight conditions
this reflection is overwhelmed by ambient light, so it can’t be seen. But in
dark conditions this light is visible to the GloSpex wearer. To combat this
unwanted reflection GloTech employs a combination of three treatments. First,
we have added a dimmer button. If you see reflected light, you can simply dim
the light by pressing the dimmer button. We’ve also applied a color filter to
the back surface of the lens and an anti-reflection coating to the front
surface of the lens. These changes have greatly improved the quality of GloSpex
lenses.
The Future
GloTech is using advance micromachining and
specialized micro metal deposition to yield even greater clarity in our lenses.
We’re currently executing several R&D tasks in keeping with our commitment
to continually improve our see-through illumination technology. In addition,
we’re developing new technology that integrates solar energy with see-through
illumination.

Figure 6: GloSpex Components
Our ultimate design goal is to compress GloSpex
technology into a regular eyeglass design. GloSpex Unoh and Visah substantially accomplishes
this by incorporating all electrical functions into a single Chip On Board
(COB). This COB is directly mounted onto a PCB board to provide the room for
multiple low-profile interconnections between the LEDs and the batteries.
Ultimately, this compressed circuit board provided the space we needed to put
two lithium polymer batteries in each GloSpex arm. These batteries provide 4
hours of illumination and can be recharged by connection to the USB port of any
computer or tablet.
Regarding the frame design, GloSpex Unoh deploys a
single wrap-around lens. Numerous customers have requested this design due to
their interest in making a fashion statement within the e-music and/or high tech
environment. The frames of GloSpex Unoh
are made of black polycarbonate optically polished to provide the highest
possible gloss finish.
About GloTech
GloTech creates new illumination technologies. We are the folks that invented the pressure sensitive illumination film used in the drawing toy called GloPad and GloDoodle. We also developed one-way-see-through illumination, a technology deployed in GloSpex eyeglasses and GloThru signs.
We invent new means of emitting light and develop related products. We also manufacture critical illumination components in our factory, located in Leominster, Massachusetts. Our passion is illumination. Our mission is to develop new means producing and powering illumination, including low cost ways of illuminating, signs, decorations and displays.
