GMOs - Kids Right to Know Walk
The Walk is an initiative by 13 year old Rachel to create awareness about our Right to Know what’s in our food. Scientists and Doctors have warned that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in our food pose irreversible long term risks to our health and the environment. The Walk will take place at 10 am on Saturday, Nov. 3rd from Dundas Square (33 Dundas St. E.) to St. Lawrence Market (95 Front St.)
Please join Rachel, Kids and Parents welcome!
Goal
To raise funds to cover the costs of coordinating the Kids Right to Know Walk in support of California’s Proposition 37 to label GMO foods and to increase awareness (particularly children) about the dangers of unlabeled genetically modified foods (GMOs) that unsuspecting parents are feeding their families every day. Foods from companies such as Kellogg’s, Kraft, Sara Lee, McCains, Nestle, and Frito-Lay, just to name a few.
Story
Rachel has devoted years now to writing and speaking about GMO’S (see YouTube). She believes that the planet is facing a real crisis! Monsanto, by creating GMOs is trying to re-invent nature, with the potential to completely devastate our entire eco system. She’s worried that her future won’t include any natural foods. She’s also worried about the health risks GMOs pose, including allergies, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, autism, cancer, and reproductive disorders to name a few. This has motivated her to speak and educate kids and families in Canada. Her hope is that a well informed public will pressure the government, the media, and the multinational food manufacturers to do the right thing by labeling GMO foods, giving consumers the right to choose. Hopefully, this will lead to consumer rejection of these products, and ultimately the complete elimination of GMOs, before it’s too late!
Rachel’s a grade 8 student, an animal lover, environmentalist and a healthy planet watchdog.
