GIABW - My Truth
As 2020, was in full effect, I found myself leaning into my spirituality more than ever before. My name is Chaz Shermil Hodges and like most of America, I found myself at an extreme low during the pandemic. The isolation, race wars, and fractured justice system had me in a tizzy. Not to mention, the constant mental battles from seeing constant brutality bestowed upon black & brown bodies.
I cried.
I contemplated suicide.
I died.
God is a Black Woman is a public mourning of who and what we have been told we need to be as black women in American society. It is also a rebirth of every beautiful thing we have ever been. My wish is for you to support this story because it's one that we have been screaming to tell and yet, somehow no one ever hears. I made this with my friends. I made this with my God. I made it as a peace-offering to my spirit, in hopes that it would gently touch yours.
Where is the Money Going?
Your love donations will help to cover expenses for permits, locations, costuming, hair & makeup, craft services, and paying crew. Also, for the short-film submissions!
Trust me. A lot goes a long way. If you have $10 to spare, that's more than we had before and we are grateful for it all.

The Impact
"A Black Woman is what happens when the Sun & the Earth makes love."
This is going to be the way in which the magnificence of our beauty is captured throughout the film. The aesthetic appeal of this is the truth in ourselves. The real the raw.
Sure, this sounds heady but the reality is. WE ARE ENOUGH.
Malcolm X has a famous quote, "The most disrespected person in America is the black woman.
The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman."
This is me changing the narrative. This is taking the person that has previously been regarded as the bottom of the totem pole and reimagining them as GOD. Not much exists for young black girls in this realm. Also, my peers of different colors will come to know and understand the hearts of black women that surround them daily. It's the uncomfortable conversation that no one wants to have, but are immensely better for it.
