Giving Voice to Writers and Artists Who Will Make the World a Better Place

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! We are a new Vermont-based, global publisher that seeks to change the way books are printed by using only post-consumer waste paper and not virgin timber. All the books published by Green Writers Press will be printed in Vermont by a family-owned business. The term 'localvore' applies to the publisher's mission, which is also to publish books, eBooks, and audio books that will spread a message of hope and renewal. We strive to build awareness to stop global warming.

It is our mission, at Green Writers Press, to spread a message of environmental activism through the words and images we will publish. We also plan to publish books that segue with our mission that also include other subjects that speak to Pquality of life and the beauty of nature. Printing on demand (POD), and using only “tree-free” papers printed at our Vermont printer, Springfield Printing Corporation, we will adhere to GWP’s commitment to preserving and protecting the natural resources of the earth. To that end, a percentage of our proceeds will be donated to the environmental activist group, 350.org. We will also give a percentage of our profits directly to Vermont-based environmental organizations and other groups.

Our vision is that, collectively, our printed and eBooks will become a chorus of voices of writers and readers, artists and photographers, who care about the fate of the earth and want to do something about it. Though we believe our books will be interesting to Vermont residents, Green Writers Press has national distribution and we hope to have a broad reach and impact. Our voices need to be heard, which is why we refer to our press as a global press. We are—we all are connected on this planet we love.

The money raised will go a long way…

Our books will be printed with soy-based inks on paper made from pulp that comes from post-consumer waste paper in a family-owned, FSC-certified printer, located in Vermont utilizing responsible environmental, social, and economic practices; made with a chlorine-free process. Environmentally-responsible and sustainable practices are embraced within this, our mission statement. We are exploring printing on other materials as well, such as organic hemp from Canada, kenaf, and arundo donax (similar to bamboo). Our goal is to never use virgin timber fiber for our paper used to print our books. To summarize:

  • The amount is what we have budgeted for our first season of printing the books.
  • Our books are printed on recycled paper IN VERMONT!
  • Our funds will go to help offset our first printing bills, and be applied there first.

The Impact

Your support will help us with our start-up expenses: Advertising, purchasing book identifier numbers, and printing costs—which are the main expenses.

  • We are just beginning the process of publishing our own authors! It is an exciting time, and we welcome your support and help to spread the word.
  • Check out this sweet video of one of our new fans, Stella, at the Burlington Book Festival where our first published book was a smash hit : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l35YFRcBAKs
  • In today’s world of social media and online transactions, here are GWP, we remember that your head and your heart need nourishment from the natural world. With that as our credo, we embark on a journey to bring the beauty of the published book as a tactile object, into the homes and hands of our readers, and we also embrace the technology of tablet and eBook publishing.
  • We will encourage our buyers to shop LOCAL first, and use this link to find their local bookstore.
  • Collectively, our voices can be heard—the earth is silent and awaits our action.

Other Ways You Can Help

Please welcome our first titles, and we have a few more coming along to join us! If you’d like to pre-order a copy of the books listed here, as print-on-demand, or eBook, just contact your local, independent bookstore with the information found here at our national book distributor—KNOW YOUR SUPPORT WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!

Once the books are available—beginning in October, 2013—they are yours to receive and ours to share. We are very excited, and welcome your thoughts and ideas and suggestions.

Make an investment today, and share this message with all of your friends who love great literature and care about the fate of the earth.

Thanks! —Dede, Robin, Alexandra, and the many authors and artists: Brian, Holiday, Greg, John E., Howard, Leland, Patti, Jade, Alok, Hollie, Claire, Steve, Willow, Zachary, John W., printer—Mark, Mary Anne, Jim, etc.—and the rest of our fabulous team.

“…Critically important in the struggle
to keep good and important literature
and ideas alive and well.”
