Long live early music!

The Harvard Early Music Society is Harvard University's premiere outlet for the performance of musical works from the Baroque tradition.  Founded in 1997, we produce concerts and operas that feature an array of student singers, young artists and professionals from the Cambridge/Boston area.

We hope to keep this organization alive with this production of Dido & Aeneas, an ambitious goal for a small group.  We believe that opera is visceral and sexy and should be able to reach a wider audience.

Help support the theatrical vision of this production.

HEMS has historically relied on grants to support its work.  This year, some major funding fell through at the last minute and the project was almost cancelled.  The team of student producers and theater professionals, committed to seeing this project through, began the semester with only $40 in the account.  The organization rallied together to stage a production (versus a concert) and we are raising money to pay for the design and execution of the theatrical elements that will help us create the world of the tragic story in simple, but beautiful, ways.

Anything beyond our projected amount will go towards ensuring that HEMS has enough seed money for future performances.

Keep opera alive in Boston!

Opera companies are closing left and right.  Please help support the presence of this vibrant art form in our community.

Spread the word!  Come see the show. December 5-7 at 8pm in the Agassiz Theatre's Horner Ballroom.
