Australia/New Zealand vs North America vs Europe! Help fundraise to send a team from Australia/New Zealand to the Multiplay Insomnia 49 gaming festival in the UK!

The stage has been prepared in Telford, UK for the biggest intercontinental Team Fortress 2 event with the attendance of the best teams from North America and Europe already confirmed. At i46 last year the global Team Fortress 2 community worked together to send two North American teams to the event. With your help we’re hoping to broaden the scope of this international competition at i49, and facilitate the first contest of strength between the three biggest scenes, with the inclusion of a team from the Australian/New Zealand Team Fortress 2 community.

The Team:

The team we’re sending to i49 has been at the top of the ozfortress competitive scene since December 2009, and consists of a tight group of players with long developed chemistry.

Medic: Bonobo (2010 - present)

Pocket Soldier: Yuki (2009 - present)

Roaming Soldier: Aporia (2009 - present)

Demoman: Bulk (2011 - present)

Goal Breakdown

Despite the additional accommodation charges, bootcamping doesn’t increase the overall price of the trip, as the absolute cheapest time to fly conveniently coincides with our intentions.

Flights: 6 players * 1530 = $9180

Bootcamp: 6 nights * 118 = $711

LAN Accommodation: 3 nights * 150 = $450

PC Hire: 6 * 115 = $690

Indiegogo fees:  ~7%

Total cost: approximately  $11,000

Team Contribution: approximate maximum of $6000

Total Goal: $5000+

The $5000 goal is the absolute minimum amount of funding needed for guaranteed attendance at i49, there are a number of stretch goals and corresponding community rewards included both before and after this $5000 to demonstrate our humble appreciation to both the donors and the broader community.  As this is a fixed funded endeavour, if the $5000 isn’t met any money donated will be returned to the donor.

Perks Breakdown

$10 - STRANGE WEAPON SIGNING - Get your Team Fortress 2 strange weapon signed by a member of the team! Donor must provide weapon and gift wrap, and can choose which team member.

$30 - ADVANCED ‘ICEBREAKER’ PARTICIPANT - Claiming this perk guarantees you a position in an advanced ‘newbie mix’ coordinated by members of the team. There will be at least one match for each of the 3 scenes competing at i49, with donors battling it out under the coaching of members of the team.

$50 - ONE HOUR - This perk is almost entirely donor directed. Claiming the ‘One Hour’ provides a donor with an hour of direct in-mumble access to an available member of the team for any Team Fortress 2 related purpose, whether that be mentoring, demo reviews, mge, or even pubbing. Indicate which class you’d like to claim this for so that the most beneficial arrangement can be pursued.

$50 - TEAM FOCUSED MENTORING - This perk is an adaptation of the ‘One Hour’ to better suit a team looking to improve. A team member is at the disposal of your team for an hour of anything Team Fortress 2 related. There are a number of possible effective uses for this perk, such as reviewing a recent Source TV demo of your team, in depth team mentoring, or spectating and providing pointers during a scrim.

$75 - COMBINE AND CONQUER - This perk entitles the donor to 'Advanced "Icebreaker" Participant,' 'Signed Strange Weapon,' as well as a choice between either the 'One Hour,' or the 'Team Focused Mentoring' perks.

$100 - VIP SCRIM ACCESS - Claiming this perk provides access to our mumble and game server during the buildup to i49. This perk provides a great opportunity to spectate top level Team Fortress 2 with the added benefit of listening in to our communications while we play, and is an excellent tool for developing an understanding of the game. Recordings will also be provided to donors who claim this perk and are unable to participate.

$150 - THE WHOLE i49 YARDS - This perk entitles the donor to 'VIP Scrim Access,' 'Advanced "Icebreaker" Participant,' 'Signed Strange Weapon,' as well as a choice between either the 'One Hour,' or the 'Team Focused Mentoring' perks.

$200 - ONE HOUR PACKAGE - The ‘One Hour Package’ is the perfect option for a group of players who are looking to improve their individual skills. This perk is the equivalent of six ‘One Hour’ packages for a bargain price, providing the perfect option for a team of players, or a group of friends.

Any kind donation is very much appreciated, and as a simple way of showing our appreciation every donor will be recognised in a post-i49 writeup.

Stretch Goals

In addition to our donor specific perks, we’re also committed to giving back to the community at large through a stretch goal threshold system operating both prior to reaching our $5000 minimum goal, and if donations exceed this goal.

This threshold system will operate to provide the community with detailed tutorial videos as thresholds are exceeded*:

  • $1000 - Badlands tutorial

  • $2000 - Granary tutorial

  • $3000 - Viaduct tutorial

  • $4000 - Pocket soldier tutorial

  • $5000 - i49 in review: Analysis of every map played by us at i49

  • $5500 - Roaming soldier tutorial

  • $6000 - Demoman tutorial

  • $6500 - Scout tutorial

  • $7000 - Medic tutorial

  • $7500 - Snakewater tutorial hosted by Aporia

+ i49 in review: Analysis of all games played by the “global giants” at i49

*These videos will be created as time permits and released both prior to and following the event.

Why should I donate?

In a global effort the Team Fortress 2 community was able to send two North American teams to i46, which resulted in some amazing games and the first opportunity for unbiased competition between the North American and European scenes. Insomnia 46 was a truly extraordinary chapter in competitive Team Fortress 2’s history, and with your help i49 will be remembered as the first time teams from the three biggest communities competed for glory on the biggest stage in competitive Team Fortress 2.

We’re attending i49 with the intention of representing the Australian and New Zealand communities to the best of our ability and any support is both humbling and greatly appreciated. It would be further appreciated if interested parties could spread the word regarding this endeavour, as this event will be excellent for players and spectators alike!
