Most teenagers, especially girls, in junior high in Hohoe, Ghana have never used computers in their lives. For computer class at school, their teachers will draw a computer on the blackboard in chalk and point out the parts.

The goal of this campaign is to buy 10 computers (at a cost of about $400-$500 each) so that  these children can learn to type and become proficient at using computers. This will greatly improve their ability to achieve higher education and obtain better jobs in the world of modern technology.

The computers will be kept at a child rights center run by Care Net Ghana, a local NGO (www.carenetghana.org). This center is a safe place for children to come when they have issues they would like to discuss privately (such as abuse, reproductive health, etc). The center also runs after school programs for school children.

We hope that the addition of these computers to the center will not only help under-privileged teenagers become computer proficient, but that this knowledge will empower them to aspire towards a better future.

To show our appreciation of your donation, we are happy send you a postcard with a personalized note from a school child, a small coin purse or bag made of African fabric.

If we do not reach our goal of $5000, we will buy as many computers as we are able with the funds that we received.

The money will first go to Margo Jacobsen, a student studying Anthropology and Pre-Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She was a volunteer with Care Net Ghana in the summer of 2012. Once the funds are received she will send them via money transfer to Patrick Ahumah, the Director and Founder of Care Net Ghana. The funds will then directly go towards purchasing the computers. The installation, electricity, and other supporting utilities will be taken care of by the NGO once the computers arrive in Hohoe.

For more information about the program or if you would like to be involved please email Margo Jacobsen (a volunteer that worked at the center) at mmj37@cornell.edu or Edem Blaise (the Project Officer of the program) blaiseedem@gmail.com

Please share this project with your friends and family as we believe that these computers will truly change the lives of the under-privileged students who will benefit from them!
