Our Plans
In coordination with the internationally recognized exchange, German American Partnership Program, 13 high school students from Madison High School and Pacific Crest Community School in Portland, Oregon, are planning a three-week exchange in Hannover, Germany. Students will have the opportunity to live with host families, attend school, immerse themselves into the culture and language, and make lasting cross-cultural connections. At the end of their time in Hannover, students will travel (with teacher and chaperone) to Berlin for a 4-day, 5-night stay in Berlin. While in Berlin, students will volunteer for a local organization and also study the history and culture of Berlin.
NOW THAT WE HAVE MET OUR GOAL!
We will now certainly be able to do all of our plans in Berlin and now any additional funds will go to us being able to take a trip up to a castle near to Hannover. You can view the website for this castle at www.schloss-marienburg.com
What We Need
Each student has raised approximately $2100 to pay for airfare, travel within Germany, and our stay in a hostel in Berlin. As of now, we are still raising money to make sure that we can have a strong safety net of funds while we are in Berlin (right now we are budgeted for students to have about $10/day, which is not very much).
We have had several fundraisers (Teens Work for Exchange, Beulahland April Mondays, Garage Sale, and Bowl-a-thon), which can be seen at the following blog: http://portlandhannovergapp2013.blogspot.com
We are only requesting $1400 to donate approximately $100 towards each student's expenses when we travel abroad. These donations can make a significant impact on student and family fundraising efforts. ($1400 because indiegogo takes 4%, if we make our goal and 9%, if we don't)
In return for your contribution, we will be sending thank you postcards from Germany to any contributor donating $35 or more. Other donors (even $5 helps, will receive a courtesy email from us).
