Lunar Mama Craftworks is a small, parent owned etsy shop that sells handmade herbal breastfeeding support kits for breastfeeding parents. Owner, Kait Moon is a Volunteer peer support counselor for breastfeeding families, a birth and breastfeeding rights activist and a mom to four awesome kids and blogger and writer. She has been supporting parents in their birthing and breastfeeding goals since 2012, after the unexpected hospital birth of her twin sons.
After leaving the hospital she struggled to feed her twins, primarily due to poor support in the hospital. After three months of often depressing and painful setbacks they were both able to breastfeed full time. It was an extremely challenging experience for her and her family but the knowledge and resources she gained were invaluable. As the twins grew, Kait began offering breastfeeing support services, for free, as a volunteer peer counselor to parents who were struggling. Her first hand experience, years of research on herbs, breastfeeding and biology, and access to libraries of information and resources are used to create tailored support for each family, according to their particular circumstances, something often overlooked in providing breastfeeding support,
all free of charge.Kait is the writer behind
The Imperfect Wife,
a blog with info and resources for all things related to parenting. The blog and peer support lead her to create the Herbal Breastfeeding Kits and inspired Kait to write a breastfeeding guidebook. She also produces art and written work under the umbrella of
"The Lunasea".
This is where you come in. In order to publish the book Kait needs to pay for editing. She is currently in the
Literary Kitchen (where her blog began!) editing and refining the book's contents and has formatted the book as a quick reference, small, easy to read and hold guide.
This campaign also aims to raise funds to help her cover costs of enrollment in an Herbal Medicine for Women certification program by an internationally known educator
Aviva Romm. This will enable her to reach more families with healthful, holistic information by hosting workshops as a Certified Educator.
All of this will support her in offering outstanding, well rounded products as well as low cost exemplary education and workshops for parents and birth workers in support of birthing and breastfeeding families. Your contribution will have not only an impact on the parents she is able to reach but their children and future generations that will have access to this life changing, and in many cases life saving information.
Follow the money!
Your contribution will go directly to the following expenses. This is the bare minimum to move to the next step in providing these services to women in need. All funds received above the goal will go directly to expenses related to this project (More herbs! More childcare! More printing!) :

Kait is bound and determined to hone her craft and offer her services to breast-feeding families and their allies. And as always she'll continue to offer her peer support free of charge. This is the first step of many.
Be the Change.Breastfeeding is often much more difficult than most parents are lead to believe. Lack of information and support plays a huge roll in the low rates of breastfeeding in America. Despite the overwhelming scientific evidence of the vital impact breastfeeding has on cognition, brain development, long term physical and emotional health and secure bonding for parents and babies, families and health workers are misled and even lied to about the crucial role breastfeeding plays in long term health. Empowering parents in understanding their bodies and their inherent abilities, offering education on their options and providing resources and support is vital to parent health, infant health and ultimately world health.
Kait has had had hundreds of hits on her blog post on breastfeeding since it was published in August 2013, all through word of mouth. She has offered her support, free of charge, to dozens of families to establish/reestablish and maintain their breastfeeding relationship with their babies and her kits have been sent to several states including Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Colorado. They are also sold at the retail shops
The Waxwing and
The Sparrow Collective, Near Milwaukee and are now available at
8 Branches Chinese Medicine in Bay View, WI. Local birth centers and other retail shops have expressed interest. We feel that providing a more detailed guide book and workshops would allow her to reach parents directly and in larger groups, helping more families, and facilitating more peer support through community outreach. The demand is there. Help Kait boost the supply with nourishing support and healthful education.
If you cannot contribute financially, please consider sharing this with your breastfeeding groups on social media, with your mama and papa friends, their families, your doulas, doctors, nurses and midwives and all birth workers. Anyone you think would be willing to spread the word or donate a dollar or two to helping parents and children succeed in one of the most beneficial, life changing and vital acts of parenting. How we feed and nurture our children. Every share helps this campaign by boosting our visibility and every single dollar goes directly to this important and life affirming cause.
