Hello There!
My name is Heath and I am Film graduate from Georgia State University. Since I left school, I have been struggling to find what I want to do with my education. I've spent time as a Production Assistant but have not been able to move past that. I currently work a sales job that I love but I really want to feel like I have impacted the film industry in some way.
I started Film Grad Reviews in January of 2013. The concept for the brand is to provide concise yet interesting reviews about films; new and old. I open with an introduction to each review, I provide a small summary and take care to not spoil any details, I then break down a specific scene or theme within the film and I explain what it means within the context of the film, I then provide a "No BS" review. My No BS review is for those that really just want to know if they should see the film or not. This can also been seen as a quick review of the entire posting. At the end, I provide a score (1-10). I provide links to YouTube videos throughout the posts to provide visual references to the topics being discussed within the posting. Feel free to vist www.filmgradreview.blogspot.com to get a taste of what I aim to provide.
With Film Grad Reviews, I am trying to change people's opinions of film critics while educating them about a medium that has become so important to our culture. I never bash a film in my review because I know people worked hard to put the piece into the public. I think that most films provide something that can be looked at positively (action films provide a great escape, romance films make you feel warm and fuzzy, comedies make you laugh) and I want to highlight those moments.
The money raised here will allow me to update my computer and webcam. This will allow me to post review on YouTube which will enable me to review more items (books, tv shows, video games, etc). The money will also help me pay for the expense of building and hosting a website as well as creating a branding image. These contributions would be a huge help as it would ensure that I reach the largest audience possible. I hope to grow my brand into the Roger Ebert (R.I.P.).
What I Need and What's In It For You
I am asking for $4000 so that I can purchase an iMac and a webcam as my laptop is 8 years old and dying. Along with these items, I will use the funds to pay for the design of www.FilmGradReviews.com.
To the people that contribute I will provide:
A "Thank You" vlog/blog post for all contributions $10 and above
A Film Grad Reviews t-shirt for contributions $50 and above
A personal review request for contributions $500 and above
Why?
I feel that in the past decade, the film industry has become one of the most important businesses on the planet. Box office records have been smashed and more people are going to the movies (eventhough ticket prices are insanely high). However, people still don't quite understand the language of film. The terms long take, montage, and mise en scene are lost on many people. I aim to change this in an engaging way. I want to use the knowledge I have acquired through college courses and apply it to current films so that people can learn to spot nuances and tropes in the films they love.
I Can't Give Money :(
That's ok! First, thanks for reading ALL the way to this point! It means you care! What you can do is simply spread the word! Tell your friends and family to read the blog and to "like" Film Grad Reviews on Facebook!
