About the Show
We Need to Talk About Bobby (off EastEnders) is a new play written by George Attwell Gerhards and the latest production by fledgling theatre company Paperback. The play is a response to the trope of the ‘crazy child killer’ seen in stories such as We Need to Talk About Kevin, Punk Rock - even the most recent episode of Sherlock. We’re hoping to question, problematize and explore society’s uneasy relationship with child violence and child actors.
“Bobby” takes you to the heart of a familiar situation - a TV show about a mentally ill and violent child – and focuses on the psychological effects appearing in such a production has on the young child actor. It interrogates the attitudes, practices and discourses that are being constructed when we do something as passive as watching a TV show.
“Bobby” will run daily from the 14th-28th of August at 12.40pm at Zoo Southside Studio. An intimate black box space, this is part of the one of the Festival’s most exciting and prestigious venues.
What are we asking for?
The Edinburgh Fringe is an expensive and competitive environment. With costs being so high and competition to sell tickets fierce, we need your support in order to make the show possible.
Your donations will contribute towards the following expenses for the show:
> Transport to and from Edinburgh for the whole Paperback team
> Marketing materials, including posters and flyers for the festival
> Production costs for the show, including costume, set and lighting
We understand that not everyone can afford to donate money to this production but if you can spare anything then we, as a company, will be extremely grateful to you!!!
