BATS in the Belfry? You Betcha!
From the start, SF BATS has been dedicated to bringing Tarot enthusiasts together for learning, growth and fun. The emphasis has always been on the exchange of information in an environment that is friendly, supportive and fun (see that word again? The one that begins with an “f”? yeah, that one - we're all about the Fun). Fun has a way of relaxing the mind, and facilitating communication (science has proven it so it must be true!) and a relaxed mind is more receptive to learning. Relaxed, happy participants are able to peer around preconceptions and look at things from different and challenging angles. Connection and growth abounds!
We have been thrilled to watch the event grow, expand and change to meet the needs of the Community it serves while retaining its essential characteristics. However (and here is where you come in) we need your help! If you want to see SF BATS survive and thrive in the years to come, help us now!
Why Support SF BATS?
One of the most exciting things about SF BATS is the tremendous camaraderie - everyone is equal in their love of, and curiosity about, the Tarot. Many books, decks and systems have come out of the effervescent ferment that is a BATS, which is to be expected when you get a bunch of bright, dedicated enthusiasts together in an enclosed area. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the “Mother Ship” of Tarot events. Even if you haven’t (yet) been to a BATS, if you work with Tarot or divination the chances are pretty good that you have been affected by what comes out if it. If you have been meaning to participate in a BATS, your contribution now helps ensure that there is a BATS in your future!
So What the Heck is SF BATS?
SF BATS is a currently a two day event featuring workshops, presentations, experiential activities and entertainment, all constellated around Tarot and Divination. This year we’re including more Lenormand and other oracles to shake up the mix even more! The speakers are a mix of local favourites, up-&-coming talent, and some of the most respected and venerable members of the Tarot world. On Saturday night there is a "BATS in the Belfry Mystical, Magickal Mixer," with entertainment, libations and even more opportunities for schmoozery.
There is a “Tarot Bazaar,” a marketplace of Tarot tools and trinkets, that offers a wide array of Tarot themed merchandise for purchase, much of it sold by the presenters. Readings are available by several of the presenters as well as the core production Daughters of Divination in what is known as the Pagan Science Reading Room.
Attendees are encouraged to put flyers, brochures and business cards on the “Table of Shameless Plugs” to help spread the word about their doings - we are big fans of sharing and support! There is also a Raffle of Fabulous Prizes <tm> featuring delicious offerings from all over the Tarot world, the proceeds of which go to various local and national charities, including bat conservation groups.
The SF BATS Programme is at the printer, so although our gratitude for contributions made after August 12th is every bit as deep, those names will not be included.
