Rainbow Honor Walk A Sidewalk Tribute

Mission Statement:  The Rainbow Honor Walk seeks to honor the heroes and heroines of the LGBT communities through a sidewalk tribute with bronze plaques in San Francisco’s historic Castro district.

Legacy and Visibility:  This is an ongoing project, much like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it will continue indefinitely (as long as the Castro District has sidewalks).  The area covered is approximately 2.5 miles of sidewalk and includes two blocks of 19th Street, two blocks of 18th Street, Castro Street from 19th to Market Streets, and Market Street from Castro Street to the LGBT Center at Market and Gough Street.  The Rainbow Honor Walk will become another icon of the City of San Francisco generating tourist traffic and breathing new life into the Castro District sidewalks.  Millions of people will be excited and inspired by the honorees.

Our Budget

The plaques are 3 feet by 3 feet and will be acid etched into bronze.  The cost of each plaque is approximately $5,000.  Installation of the first twenty plaques will be donated by the San Francisco Department of Public Works.  The Rainbow Honor Walk is an all volunteer board which meets in donated space by Zephyr Real Estate in the Castro.  Administrative and overhead costs are minimal.

The First 20 Plaques

These are the first 20 Honorees.  There's room for a lot more.  The Rainbow Honor Walk will have plaques on both sides of Market street from Castro to Gough Streets.  So check back in to find your favorite LGBT hero or heroine.
