Short Summary
DIRECTOR'S NOTE:
I’m Nathan Crenshaw, the writer and director of Hotel Rendezvous. Hotel Rendezvous is a short script I started writing a few months ago, and after many drafts it has gone into pre-production and hopefully, with your help, will become a film. What that’s going to take is money that no recent film school grad has on their own, so my hope is that with your generous support Hotel Rendezvous can see the big screen.
My inspiration for the script came from this random image my friend gave me of a girl in a high-end hotel hallway carrying a package. As I built a story around this image, I knew I wanted to write a female protagonist with some depth and mystery to her. I also knew that I wanted it to be short and sweet, almost like it was the opening to the feature film it could one day be.
The film is about a girl-next-door type who looks to return a very important hard-drive her brother stole from an exceedingly powerful individual, in hopes of getting him out of trouble, aka keeping him from being killed. However, plans start to go awry and certain characters turn out to not be who we think. The story is one of tension and deception, with a twist ending I assure you won't forget.
The style we’re going for is classy, with a look similar to movies like Skyfall, Oceans Eleven, and Drive. It will be shot in 2.5K (really high-res) on one of the new Black Magic Cameras. Co-Producer and Editing will be my filmmaking partner Kory Hill, the two of us have been putting together films and other video projects for years, he shares my passion for this story and how we’re looking to tell it.
Another exciting addition to the crew is our composer, PRFFTT & Svyable, the up-and-coming electronic duo made up by Sam Driver and Sven Benson. Their music is blowing up right now, and Sam is sure to bring some great talent and artistic expression to the film. Influences will be scores from artists like Trent Reznor (Social Network), Daft Punk (Tron), and Cliff Martinez (Drive), but the anxiety-building escalation of music-awesomeness Sam and Sven are sure to put together will be more original than it will be like any of these.
In order for all of this to come together: the camera, the lights, the props, the food to feed everyone, all that, we need your help. As you can see at the side we’re offering all kinds of cool incentives for donations from credits in the film to DVDs to free downloads of the soundtrack and more. We appreciate anything you can spare towards the project, even if that means just sharing it to your facebook and twitter to help us gain support. Thank you for your interest and hopefully your contribution to Hotel Rendezvous.
Sincerely,
Nathan
What We Need & What You Get
Hotel Rendezvous is short and simple, with one location, and few characters and crew necessary. This concise nature of the story thankfully also lends to it being low-budget friendly. That said, for this film to have the look and feel of a festival winning master-piece it will still be more than my starving-artist pocketbook can handle.
Here's a brief breakdown of what this money is being spent on:
- $50: Pre-production (renting space for auditions, craft services, etc.)
- $1,230: Production (lights, mics, actor pay, food for crew, and insurance)
- $720: Festivals/Marketing (Festival submission fees are EXPENSIVE, + posters, etc.)
This is where you come in. The crowd-funding culture that Indiegogo has helped create is amazing to me, and I have great affection for contributing affordable amounts to the passion-projects of my friends and others. If you contribute, you will become a part of the family of folks seeing this film through to bright horizons, and will have perks and updates on the progress of its future with the knowledge that you were a part of what made it all happen.
Perks, this is the cherry on top. Links to the film, credits, downloads of the soundtrack, posters, DVDs, Blu-rays, even t-shirts and a special premiere screening are all things you can gain to feel even that much more a part of our team, because you are.
The Impact
This is my first film out of film school, and will be a giant marker not just for myself but all of the young talent participating in the project. My last film "To the East of Town" was funded on Indiegogo, and it went on to festivals around the country, as well as headlined the portfolios of its cast and crew. Many of us are re-uniting for Hotel Rendezvous, plus some exciting new-comers, and will be able to thank your support for the ability to keep growing as actors, cinematogaphers, editors, musicians, and filmmakers.
Oh, and did I mention the badass film "Hotel Rendezvous" gets to be a reality? Who wouldn't want to see an awesome suspense thriller that they helped make? Now that's what I call entertainment.
