In August, we were filming HOUSE OF VHS, an original horror film about six international students finding a magical VCR in an abandoned house. They decide to watch VHS tapes, and start sinking slowly into madness...
We had to deal with quite a few problems on the set, one of them being that our special effects make-up artist stood us up at the very last minute! We had to come up with a whole new ending, which could work with or without special effects shots. So now we're confronted to this question: is the film going to be good, or BETTER? Your choice.
Who's making this?
HOUSE OF VHS was shot in France, by writer-director Gautier Cazenave and a French crew. The talented cast is uniquely international: an American character (played by Icelandic-Luxembourger actor Pétur Sigurðsson), an Italian chick (French-Spanish actress Florie Vialens), a British girl (Irish-American actress Isabel McCann), a French dude (French actor Morgan Lamorté), a Belgian girl (French actress Delphine Lanniel) and an Australian guy (Swiss-Australian actor Ewen Blumenstein). Try to beat that!
The ending of the movie could work without special effects, the same way pasta can feed you, without sauce, butter or parmiggiano. But then, who doesn't prefer pasta alla bolognese? We're not talking about visual effects, the one that are achieved with a computer (these are already accounted for), but about practical effects, involving fake heads and juicy blood.
Ideally, we would need to come up with 3 practical special effects shots, that we would insert in the final scenes. Of course, 1000€ wouldn't be enough to finance all of them, but we would be able to film at least one.
1,000€: one special effects shot, involving a fake head; we would be better off with 1,500
when we reach 2,500€: two special effects shots
when we reach 5,000€: three special effects shots
10,000€: we could film all three shots, and add an entire new sequence in the middle of the film (one we couldn't afford this summer)
