OUR PRESENT: Community Action
On February 28, 2013, RDAC-BX was violently and abruptly evicted from its historic home on 478 Austin Place. In response to this displacement, we are launching a campaign to raise $50K in 60 days to raise awareness about gentrification in the South Bronx and to find a permanent home to lay down new roots.
We need YOU to ACT now in support of RDAC-BX to keep our FREE, CREATIVE, and POSITIVE programming alive. Specifically, your support will go towards 8 pillars of RDAC-BX's rebuilding:
- Renting and furnishing of a new, physical space to call our own so that youth can continue to build with one another in a safe place and access programming.
- Construction of a recording studio, where young talent and renowned artists will come together to lay down tracks and produce constructive music.
- Launch of the Richie Perez Radical Library, which will host book clubs, reading groups, and guest author panel discussions.
- Installment of the Nuestra America Media Center, where youth will build skills in photography, videography, journalism, and reporting, and strengthen their critical eye for deconstructing mass media.
- Production of South by South Bronx Hip Hop Festival (SxSBX), a conference of Hip Hop workshops and ledgendary showcases, bringing over 300 participants in-house.
- Execution of Boogie Mics, a consistent, monthly open mic series that features established headliners and opens doors for young people's creative performance process.
- Enrollment of youth in the Summer Youth Employment Program / Leadership Institute, which implements an annual curriculum designed around RDAC-BX's core values of Hip Hop and Activism.
- Realization of the RDAC-BX Annual Film Festival, a series that screens consious, educational, and historic films followed by panel discussions with actors, directors, and other movie participants.
OUR FUTURE: Community Growth
RDAC-BX is a part of the community it serves: the international family dedicated to envisioning, working towards, and creating justice, accountability, and positivity in our neighborhoods, starting right here in the South Bronx. It was built with your support and we are calling on you again now to launch us into our next chapter.
