This campaign was a great success... visit my new
to ship 1,000s of books to Ghana schools.
Books4Ghana
What's this Campaign About?
Education is the key to many of the world's challenges.
Books are a huge part of education.
In Ghana schools, books are very scarce (similar to the situation in many developing countries).
I shipped 800 books to Bright Future School (k-gr 9) in the fall and the impact of that shipment was huge and immediate.
I have collected 3,000+ books that I will ship in January.
This campaign is very cost effective and your contributions will have an immediate impact:
- There is no bureaucracy involved and no red tape
- My campaign closes late January and I will ship immediately
- The books will arrive in Ghana at the end of March
- By mid April the books will be in the schools and the students will begin benefitting from them
We all know the power of education. At the very least, BOOKS SHOULD BE A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE.
The Money
The bulk of the money will be spent on the following:
To ship 10 shipping containers (barrels/drums): $150 ea. = $1500
To transport 10 containers from the port to the schools: $50 ea. = $500
To transport 10 containers from my house to shipper: $150 truck rental w.gas
The cost of 10 containers: $20 ea = $200
Perks and mailing: $200
Also, there are indiegogo charges.
That's less than $1 per book. Not bad since some of the books are $100 textbooks and most are a minimum $10 value.
If I receive more than my goal, I'm constantly gathering up books to send (I'm addicted) and will possibly have more than 10 containers by shipping time anyway. This will not be my last shipment.
About Me
My name is Keith Goddard and I have been a teacher in Toronto for almost 20 years. I have travelled to Ghana, West Africa four times in the past and my wife was born and schooled there. Most of the 3,000+ books in this shipment have been donated from three Toronto area schools and private citizens of Toronto. Most of those people I found through ads on Kijiji or Craig's List. Besides Bright Future School, I will also be donating 500 of the books (that are at a high school level) to a high school in that neighbourhood in Keta, where many of the Bright Future School graduates go to. It would be tragic if, when they went off to high school, there were no books for them. I have many amazing high school level text books and fiction books. I also have about 500 university level books, and most of those I will be giving to a newly built university in the Volta Region (Volta University). I am amazed by the qualtiy of many of the university texts that were donated (math, science, psychology, sociology, medicine, etc.).
I plan on providing books to all the needy schools in Ghana, one school at a time!
BOOKS COUNT!!
If you're not able to contribute, please pass the word on by telling your friends or use the Indiegogo tools to share on FB or Twitter.
Thanks:)
