ICARUS: A New Play
All Donations are Tax Deductible
OUR GOAL
This March, we are excited to further develop ICARUS through this showcase. We will present and stage several scenes from the production at the Henson Carriage House for invited guests and industry professionals.
ICARUS has been in development for several years, including successful workshops at the Connecticut Repertory Theater, The University of Connecticut and the National Puppetry Conference at the O’Neill Theater Center.
The show has already garnered significant accolades from Journal Inquirer and The Puppetry Journal and has received support through a prestigious grant from the Jim Henson Foundation.

THE STORY
Blinded by ambition. Longing for family. Tempted by fate.
The ancient Kingdom of Crete is in turmoil. Daedalus, the Royal Inventor whose wife was taken from him by Posiedon, God of the seas, is struggling to raise his willful son, Icarus. The boy is haunted each night by dreams of a mysterious woman who calls him to the sea.
Within the Royal Palace, the King is obsessed with procuring an heir and is willing to anger the Gods to make it so. A vengeful Poseidon bewitches Queen Pasaphae to mate with a white bull and she gives birth to the Minotaur. In the midst of this turmoil, storms rage, revolution looms, and there are choices to be made.
"An amazing hypnotic, and original achievement!"
- Kory Loucks, The Journal Inquirer
"Mr Brancato and Mr. Bush dug far below the surface of the tale to create characters with complexity and depth."
- Steve Abrams, The Puppetry Journal
Thank you in advance from all of us on the ICARUS team - and a special thanks to Great Small Works for their fiscal sponsorship and support.
