The last 12 years I‘ve dedicated all my spare time, skills, knowledge and financial recourses to a special mission: to publish a unique high-quality photo monograph of ICONS from Orthodox Monastery Hilandar, dating from The Holy Evangelist Luke himself to 17^th century and thus to reveal this, practically unknown, treasure to the world.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

I had an honor to get, not only a permit to visit Hilandar several times, but also took thousands of high quality photos, including 114 extraordinary icons for this publication. Among these relics are the Wonderworking Icons of the Theotokos "Of the Akathist" and "Of the Three Hands" that is believed to be painted by The Holy Evangelist Luke himself. The book contains 330 pages with detailed information on every icon. Same material will be presented in the photo exhibition of the highest quality.

Monastery Hilandar is located on the miraculous Mount Athos, a mountain and peninsula in Greece, a home to 20 eastern Orthodox monasteries. Mount Athos is commonly referred to as the “Holy Mountain“.

Steep, densely forested slopes up to 2,033 meters high and dangerous surrounding seas, make the only access by boat very challenging.

The restricted number of visitors is required to obtain a special entrance permit. Females are not allowed to enter the peninsula for centuries and only way for them to see treasures and architecture of the monasteries is trough printed publications, photo exhibitions or videos. Monastery Hilandar have one of the greatest collections of Icons in the world.

NEED:

Till now I‘ve succeeded to accomplish all the main phases of the Project: photographing the icons, preparing all the photos for high-quality printing, getting experts to write comprehensive accompanying text in Serbian. Translation to English language is in progress.

Everything is almost ready for printing and publishing. But the cost highly exceeds my financial potentials.

The cost of translation to English, printing the Book and making Photo Exhibition will reach $84,000.00.
