A knight and his dragon
My name is Bryn Fraker. I am a senior animation student at the California College of the Arts. My short film, "Ignite," features stop motion animation. Everything you see on the screen was meticulously made by hand, the characters, the environment, the props. The illusion of movement is created by moving the puppet a tiny bit, take a picture, repeat. "Ignite" follows the antics that arise when a lowly knight tries to roast a hotdog with dragon fire. The dragon, of course has other ideas.
My passion lies with stop motion animation and fabrication. I love taking drawings and turning them into something you can touch. I have been pulling out all the stops will making the world of "Ignite."
Peet is a playful, curious and mischievous dragon. He is a fully posable puppet. From the tip of his nose to his tiny dragon toes he was entirely crafted by hand. He can blink, yawn, run around, wag his tail, and flap his wings.
Bill the Knight would best be described as a knight-in-dull-armour, although he made the dragon riding team, he is hapless and often left behind. He is also a fully posable puppet, with silicon hands, an embroidered tunic, and weathered, dinged-up helmet.
It's time to bring them to life
I have been working on this film with a student budget, your support will help me cover the expenses of
- Materials to build the puppets and sets
- Software to film and edit the stop motion project
- Promotion at festivals and events
I have been working on this film for the past six months, trying to make it the best that it can be. Not only has this film already taught me so much about story, character, and sheer technical skill of fabricating, it will help me break into the competitive animation industry when I graduate this spring. I hope "Ignite" will promote interest in stop motion animation, an increasingly niche field. I also hope my film will inspire other young women to make their own opportunities in animation.
