An Introduction...
Humble Greetings!
We are the Ladies of Improvised Jane Austen, an all-female improv troupe from Chicago, IL. Sign-up for our newsletter!

We consist of 15 ladies who are passionate about improvisational comedy and the great authoress from the Regency Era, Miss Jane Austen.
Our love of Miss Austen, and our desire to perform in her style, has prompted us to submit our show for comedy festivals in Chicago and around the U.S. It is with great joy that we can tell you, dear supporters, that we have been honored with invitations to:
With good fortune, we will also be accepted into the Funny Women’s Fest in Chicago, The Milwaukee Comedy Festival, and, farther away, the Del Close Marathon in NYC. But, lo, we are in need of your kindness and your charity to make these hopes and wishes come true, for we have not the fortune of a Mr. Darcy.
Our Modest Request...
We endeavor to raise $2000 to ensure we can:
- Submission Fees: Each festival charges a fee to off-set organizational costs, and we would love to share our Regency improv with every festival.
- Supplement travel costs to places such as Dallas and NYC.
- Costumes: We wish to deepen the Regency style of our performances with the addition of costumes, which would enable each lady to easily play every Austenian character—from a young, witty heroine, to a noble-but-proud gentleman (that surely longs for a wife).
Anon, we turn to you: a supportive lover of Jane Austen’s work and, most certainly then, of comedy.
Our Gratitude...
For your donation we will gladly share your generosity with all in our social network, and expound on your virtues in the most romantic of Regency language. For those of you with more to share, we will gratefully write a letter d'amour to you or anyone of your choosing, we will happily invite you to our performances; and for those with the most to give, we will focus an entire performance around your own respectable personage!
Your Impact...
For what might seem a small sum to most, the amount Improvised Jane Austen is seeking will not only provide much wanted performance opportunities, it will provide a strong and far reaching voice for women in comedy. Jane Austen herself was a hidden talent in her time and was not appropriately recognized until after her untimely death at age 41 (her first novel was written under the pseudonym, ‘A Lady’). Jane Austen empowers the Ladies of IJA to not only be funny (without the aid of men), but also to own the stage we perform upon with knowledge, wit, humility, compassion and class. We are also proud to continue spreading the joy and humor that Jane Austen provided over 200 years ago. Her characters are as relevant as ever and it delights us ever-so-much to share her style with people who have loved her for years or are meeting her for the first time, and we hope we can continue to promote her legacy.
A Noble Deed...
Though not all may be able to help financially, The Ladies of IJA greatly appreciate any good word you might be so inclined to share. Indiegogo has wonderful features that enable you to share our campaign on your Facebook page or your Twitter feed. Likewise, please follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter, and we will gladly follow you back. Additionally, if you find yourself in Chicago, no support would mean more than if you should join our audience at an Improvised Jane Austen performance. Please check our performance schedule at our website, www.improvisedjaneausten.com.
