THE MIRROR IN THE SKY STORY
We love handmade scarves and we love creating amazing designs... put the two together and you have Mirror in the Sky.
Our story begins in the Nepal Himalaya mountains where we discovered a tradition of handweaving cashmere that is more than 400 years old. We are based in Barcelona, a beautiful vibrant city full of style and for the last three years we've learnt how to make great scarves. At the same time, we've searched for a way to combine our passion for art, design and photography to create a unique range of 'Signature Designs'.
Designer scarves are normally very expensive and that doesn't make sense to us. Our mission is to promote new and emerging artists, designers and photographers through a sustainable business model for high quality handmade products. We have decided to focus on selling our products online, so that we can:
- Avoid the huge markups of retailers and distributors
- Guarantee Fair Wages to our weavers and artists
- Offer you amazing value for money
So we've come to Indiegogo because we need to meet minimum quantities for each design. We'd really appreciate your help to make this project a reality and reach our fundraising goal of €12,000 (US$13,000) and make all of our Signature Designs!
EARTHQUAKE DISASTER UPDATE
The launch of our Indiegogo Campaign has coincided with a massive earthquake in Nepal. Tragically one staff member lost their life and the factory has been partially damaged but we are thankful because the situation could have been much worse.
Over the last twenty years Nepal has been a huge part of our lives, it is our second home, so we will be donating 10% of all sales to the disaster relief program.
We will be supporting PHASE Nepal (www.phasenepal.org) a humanitarian NGO based in Nepal who are coordinating relief supplies throughout the country.
The disaster relief program is just the beginning of the help that Nepal needs now and in the future. We think that the best way to help Nepal fully recover is by combining emergency aid with long-term business partnerships so we believe our project has become more important than ever.
The Fair Wages we pay are a vital lifeline for more than 100 families. We are already repairing the factory and expect to be operational in the next two to three weeks.
We are totally committed to continue working in Nepal in the years ahead.
Please support our project by choosing a perk and sharing our story.
HANDCRAFTED
When you begin with amazing fibers you can make amazing scarves. We have chosen a 'modal-cashmere' blended yarn because it is totally natural and feels sensational. Modal comes from beech trees and cashmere is from mountain goats in the Himalaya and Mongolia.
We make everything in Nepal by hand, from preparing the yarn, weaving, massaging and finishing each scarf because we believe it is the best way to make amazing products.
SIGNATURE DESIGNS
The idea of wearable art really appeals to us, so we have partnered with artists, designers and photographers to create what we call 'Signature Designs' - to transform our scarf canvas in to products that say or express something about who we are and the world we live in.
We want to encourage more artists and designers to get involved with
our project, so please feel free to
contact us with ideas!
FAIR WAGES
Designer scarves typically cost €270 - €1000 (US$300 - $1100) due to
high margins charged by distributors and retailers but we want to make
our products affordable to everyone and pay Fair Wages to the
folks who make them.
We believe that producing high-value handmade items is the most sustainable way of building a strong business in Nepal. Our project is designed to improve the livelihoods of all the staff in Nepal as well as the artists and designers who create our designs.
It has taken us two years to put together the right
combination of yarn suppliers, weavers, designers and artists to test our sustainable business model but we must also be competitive. So, instead of cutting wages to save costs, we have decided to cut out the middle men and retailers and sell direct online.
SOMETHING LUCKY FOR EVERYONE
Plus, every product comes with a Kalachakra amulet that has been
blessed by a Tibetan Lama. It's a symbol of tolerance, wisdom and
openness from the Himalaya and represents our ethical, open approach to
business.
We recommend you put it on your key ring and you'll never
loose your keys again ;-)
Please scroll down the page for more details about each design.

FAQs
I am buying a scarf as a gift, can I specify the delivery date?
Sure you can... but there will be an additional cost. Please contact us for details.
I want to buy more than one design, can I ship them together?
Yes, but you must check the duty value limit on combined shipments. It might work out faster and cheaper to send them separately.
Can I recommend an artist or designer to you?
Absolutely! Please put us in contact.
I want to make my own designs, is that possible?
Yes it is, but small quantities will be expensive to make so try to meet our minimum quantity of 10 pieces.
I want to contribute to your project but I cannot afford a scarf, what can I do?
Every contribution is welcome and for those over €20 we will send you a thank you kalachakra amulet... see perks...
and please share our story with your friends, we need all possible help to make our campaign a success!
