The Founder

Justice Frangipane, the founder of Solar Flipside LLC, is known world wide for his creative ingenuity and extreme athletisism. He has tied two world records, one for a twisting quadruple flip. The other for doing a backflip with 2,160 degrees of twisting rotation, as well as competing in the 2008 Olympic trails for trampoline. He has performed live on the show America's Got Talent as well as NBA and NHL games. He has done promotional work for the likes of Skechers, Vuly Trampolines, and Adidas. He has been head hunted by Jaybird Audio, Cirque Du Soleil, and Disney Entertainment. He has accomplished a wide variety of creative endeavors, including serving as Production Manager for Aerial Experience Productions. 

If you ask him the secret to his success he will tell you this, "Surround yourself with people who are great at what you want to do. Be humble, learn. Never look down on the day of small beginnings. Above all, be proud of your ability to work harder and longer than everyone else. Genius also comes in the flavor of work ethic."

Justice is a thankful Christian, and son of the world reknown author Francis Frangipane. 

Justice grew up an avid gamer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Owning and extensively using an Atari 2600, Commadore 64/128, NES, Sega Master System, SNES, Genesis, Sega 32x, Neo Geo, Sega CD, Saturn, N64, Gameboy, Nintendo Game Cube, Game Gear, Atari Lynx, Atari Jaguar, PsOne, PSP, Playstation 2, Xbox, Dreamcast (Japanese import), Dreamcast, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3, just to name a few. 

Every console had controllers with buttons. Transitioning to a touch screen had its many woes. Touch screen gaming has many limitations and only a few benefits. With the vast majority of games suffering from a lack of better controls, Justice knew a change would be coming. When it didn't come when, or how he had hoped, He knew he had to get involved in providing the solution he wanted. This is how the Flipside was born.

What have we done so far?

The Flipside(TM) brain child was born in late 2011.  It came from a realization that, although the iPhone is a phenomenal device, gaming on it is not.  The need for a realistic controller for the iPhone was evident on my first attempt at "NOVA 2." Trying to play first person shooter games on a touch screen where your fingers are covering half the visual field is often maddening.  So, I decided that if I was going to create the ultimate gaming device that I was not going to compromise on anything.  I want it all! I started at the top. My list was long.  I wanted it to be bluetooth, have all the game buttons I need, including shoulder and trigger buttons, work with all the games I love, and definitely not fall apart in my hands.  Lastly, I wanted it to be TRULY wireless - never having to plug in to charge.  Thanks to solid state, thin film batteries and solar cells, it's all possible now.

The next thing was to fine tune the design.  Through the work of a 3D modeler, we were able to "see the future" of the Flipside and use the designs to aid in the next step - building a prototype.  The first rough prototype for the case design was completed in summer 2012.  From there the work ramped up into high gear. The first electronics board was created, and we developed a working prototype. At that point we were confident that our idea would transform into reality.  Contacts were made with distribution companies, investors, and Apple, who gives their support!!  After research, knowing that the market has a place for us, that people have interest, and we would have IOS support has given us the momentum we need to push ahead with this exciting project.  In recent months we have hired an amazing Electrical Engineer to finish the electronics board and he is scaling it down to the final size of <4mm off any surface after the overmolding is done. We're proud to say that ALL of the initial "must haves" will be included int his first production run  .Currently we are just working out minor kinks and setting up the production and distribution timeline for this based on certain "milestones" we acheive though this campaign. Here is where YOU come in!!

This is a personal project that we want to see in the hands of our commrades/customers, and in our own hands as well.  Over the last year we have worked tirelessly. We have designs, patents(!), redesigns, electronics boards, financial reports, refined design, prototypes, partnerships, and last but not least finishing designs. Next up is bringing the finished design from prototype stage to market and distribution ready for you. Our team is ready to hit the "start" button and get moving!

Do I have to be a gamer to enjoy the Flipside case?

No! The Flipside is a specially designed case with serious gaming controls added that, in addition to just being fun, can help good gamers get better, and great gamers just go nuts!  But, if you are like my wife, and play maybe one or two games a year, it is still a fully functional phone case that looks awesome and is a great conversations piece. As per my wife "I can't wait to have one. Even though I'm not a big gamer, at least I know that when I am playing that it will be comfortable, and ergonomic. And hopefully it will eventually cause me to overtake my husband and son as king of the gamers!!!" (note from "the boss" that will never happen, sorry babe)
