Update 7/18: Ken Stringfellow has come and gone, and he has left a batch of 11 incredible rough mixes in his wake. More details on the sessions can be found on my blog and on Ken's blog.
This record is going to be better than anything I've done yet, and it's thanks to you guys! I will need to get some more preorders going to help offset the mixing/mastering portion of the project; details on that soon. But everyone who contributed here can expect the new CD (and all their other goodies) later this year. And I'll keep you posted as things develop.
In the meantime, stay in touch! Feel free to be my friend on Facebook and drop me a message any time. :)
Update 5/14: Big thanks to everyone who contributed to my campaign! Recording preparations are coming along nicely. Songs are being tweaked, session players are being brought up to speed, and July will be upon us in no time!
I will be documenting my progress at my web site - www.jimtyrrell.net. Keep an eye on it! And thank you again for helping to make this happen!
Jim
PS: The MINI Cooper is still available! Heh.
The Story So Far
I have been a working musician for over 20 years. In 2010 I released my third self-produced album (Onward To Yesterday), and I launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to take it on tour. With those funds, I was able to go much further by leaving my 'day job' and effectively becoming a full-time career musician. It's a hand-to-mouth, week-to-week business, but it's the only job for me and I work hard at it.
Work has begun on the next album, and I have the opportunity to work with some big names, but it will take more than my little home studio to get it done. I'm asking for your help in making this the best record I've ever made.
What Happens Now
The demos are in place, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with Ken Stringfellow (of The Posies, REM, and Big Star)! I met Ken on a recent trip to Asheville, NC. His latest solo record (Danzig In The Moonlight) is gorgeous, and the production work he has done for other musicians clearly shows that he will bring my songs to a whole new level.
this Indiegogo project is all about raising the funds to bring in Ken and a studio musician, and securing time in a nearby music studio. Recording is currently slated for early July, with mixing and mastering to follow.
How You Can Help
By contributing, you basically become my record label. That whole 'getting discovered by a major label and making it big' thing? Yeah, that doesn't happen anymore. And here in the new music business, it doesn't have to! Instead of taking what the industry decides to feed you, projects like this allow you to help cultivate the music (and musicians) YOU want to hear.
And there's more than just the new album to be had, too! By helping to make this happen, you are believing in me, and I want to GIVE YOU STUFF for that, because that's just incredibly awesome. Keep an eye on the list, because new stuff will be added as the project goes on!
And even if you can't contribute monetarily, you can help by letting other people know about the project! Share it with your friends On Facebook or Twitter or whatever else the young kids are using these days.
Thanks guys. Even if I COULD do this without you, what would be the point? I'm no J. D. Salinger; I want to share my work with the world. You make it happen, and you're why it happens. Cheers!
