This is Part 2 of this fundraiser. Of the original $10,000 we were trying to raise, we were able to raise $4235 with 50 donations!! This is a HUGE project and we could use a little more help. If you were thinking of donating but missed the last deadline, here is your chance to be part of history! Thanks to all who have donated up to now. We so appreciate your generosity.
Who's John Morton?
If you are a fan of the Datsun 240Z it's probably because of one John Morton. Back in 1971 John and Pete Brock's BRE race team won the national championship in a 240Z car bringing notoriety to the Datsun brand and making fans of the sporty affordable Japanese alternative to Chevy's Corvette.
What are you trying to accomplish?
First the first time ever the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is allowing past national champions an opportunity to come directly to the National Runoffs. 43 years later, Steve & Chris Bonk of Bonk Brothers Racing (BBR) along withi Sam Neave's of LNA Enterprises are attempting to replicate the #46 car (which was destroyed back in the '70s) in order for John to make an attempt at winning the national championship at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI in September of this year.
Building a car like this takes money. Not only does it take money for the car, but for the tires, the gas, the hotels, the paddock tents etc.
Why should I contribute to this project?
If you are the nostalgic type of person who would love to see a 71 year old former national champion kick the crap out of a bunch of much younger competitors in the type of car he made famous.....well this is the project for you.
What are the challenges?
Not only do we have to build the car, but it has to be competitive. Our biggest challenge is building a car that gets John through the practice and qualifying sessions before the actual race. Spare parts are essential. Luck always plays a role.
