We rarely think of spam this way, but it has become a human development problem for several areas of the world, prohibiting citizens from fully realizing the potential of the Internet. With your help, we are determined not to let Spam continue to be a barrier to free trade, educational opportunities, and access to information for developing countries.

The Internet Society’s Combating Spam Project aims to educate policymakers in developing countries about the problem to come-up with innovative solutions. But we have not yet been able to take the project off the ground: 70% of the funds needed to get the project running are already available.

This means we need to raise $20,000 in the next days to make it a reality. This is why your contribution is so extremely important.

With your help, we are determined not to let Spam continue to be a barrier to free trade, educational opportunities, and access to information for developing countries.

Building on more than 20 years of experience defending an open and global Internet, our goal is to inform and educate those who can act to solicit change and help to minimize the negative impacts of Spam on quality of life.

We believe the best way to do this is by bringing together policymakers, technical experts, and civil society organizations to discuss and create innovative solutions.

== Update: our first seminar on Combating Spam for Policy Makers, in Nairobi, Kenya will happen
October 7th, 2013. More about it soon.

Your support will help ensure that (see detailed breakdown below):

  • materials on the topic are created and shared in several languages, and
  • as many policymakers as possible are able to attend,
  • conversations will continue beyond the workshops, disseminating the outcomes of each of these events with those who can create change.

  • Workshops will be held in conjunction with a scheduled regional regulatory meeting, such as the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) or Advanced Packaging Tool (APT), so that the maximum number of regulators, policymakers and government advisors can attend.
