Science needs you!
You can become a sponsor of K-CAP 2013 and give your support to science starting at $1!!!
Science and scientific research has been, is and will remain the key to progress. Scientific research is most effective when researchers and practitioners get together, both virtually and physically, and exchange views, experiences, ideas, experiments and results. While during the past 15 years there has been a revolution in how researchers collaborate virtually -thanks to the Internet- reducing the need to meet often face to face, there is still the need for physical get-togethers once in a while.
We want to innovate a tiny little bit in how such meetings are organized by adding a new funding source to the organization of a specific scientific conference on Knowledge Capture. Most scientific conferences are funded through a combination of participant registration fees and institutional sponsors, and that is a good model that functions well. However, in the current situation of economic downturn, where both institutions (companies, research institutes) and the participants have less budget to spend on such activities, it is becoming increasingly harder to run such meetings without losing money, with the risk of reducing the frequency of face to face meetings beyond the minimum leading to impoverished scientific research.
We think that crowd sponsoring is a welcome addition to organize scientific events. Many people giving a tiny little bit they can afford, will help that such important events will sustain even in hard times.
Why would people sponsor a little amount to help organizing a scientific event? We think that it appeals to the social responsibility of many people. Increasingly more people have a need to act to improve things in the world; it gives us a sense of realization. Moreover, it is fun.
If you crowd-sponsor with more than $10 the K-CAP 2013 edition, we will print your name in a tag cloud with all your co-sponsors, and
- put it on the home page of the conference
- provide you with a link to a PDF file containing the tag cloud
- tweet your name from the @KCAP account, highlighting your social responsibility
- distribute the tag cloud at the conference
- print the tag cloud on the conference material
Thanks in advance!
