Kijana, an International NGO, empowers Kenyan and American youth through school development projects and cultural exchange. Kijana has invested in over 25 schools in Kenya and redeveloped Mwituha Secondary School in Bunyore Kenya from 2006 to the present. In 2005, Mwituha was defunct and had been for over 10 years. Mwituha now educates over 300 students at a beautiful and thriving compound. Recently Kijana funded, constructed and furnished with books a unique library and amphitheater at the school. One of our next endeavors is to replicate the library/amphitheater in two other school communities in Kenya: Lwanda in Nyanza Province and Essaba in Bunyore. Kijana seeks to build great schools and empower youth through greater global connectivity while expanding the quality of and access to education.
THE CAMPAIGN
Using local talent, Kijana is reaching out and providing greater literary and academic opportunities to additional school communities. We are seeking $50,000 to construct the next library/amphitheater in the Lwanda community in Nyanza Province Kenya. Lwanda is a relatively new high school which lacks financial resources. In partnering with Lwanda, Kijana will fund and construct a similar library/media center and amphitheater as the one at Mwituha and supply it with at least 5000 books. Whatever additional resources we raise will be used toward the similar building at Essaba. We need your help to continue to expand our global reading and writing culture.
The library/media center will include four rooms: a main reading hall, a computer room, an entry way and an open veranda/overflow classroom. It will also have an adjoining amphitheater which will provide a beautiful setting for local artistic performances. The unique construction will allow students to develop and showcase their skills and promote variegated creative enterprise. If 200 of our friends and new partners each gather 10 additional friends to contribute $5 each, we will be 20% of the way to our $50,000 goal necessary to complete the project. We are asking you to join us in this important effort. The project will benefit the community in a multitude of ways. Not only will students have access to significantly improved resources, but many local skilled laborers and others will gain employment opportunities, fueling additional economic activity. Watch the attached Youtube video of the Mwituha library and amphitheater, which Kijana constructed.
THE WHY
According to Millenium Goal Monitor, school fees and other expenses require approximately a quarter of a family’s income in Sub-Saharan Africa. Schools have extremely limited resources yet students are hungry for education. Our human society continues to lose out on human development as millions of capable and motivated youth lack opportunity for personal advancement. Kijana is taking solid steps to help youth move closer to their potential-benefitting all of us.
HOW YOU CAN TAKE ACTION
The students and community members of Lwanda and Essaba need your help. You can take the following steps:
1) Commit to recruiting 20 friends to make a modest contribution of $25 each.
2) Spread the word through Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, text messages and other means.
3) Learn more about Kenya, Africa and our global educational needs.
4) Reach out to someone in your community from a different background or culture.
Together, we can work to expand educational and literary opportunities for all, thereby creating a more just, peaceful, economically vibrant and sustainable world.
THANK YOU!!! ASANTE SANA!! We are greatly appreciative for your partnership in furthering global educational and economic opportunities.
