Short Summary
Hi there!
We want to run a dedicated Knightmare convention on May 9th-11th 2014 at EPIC studios, which are the original TV studios in Norwich where Knightmare was filmed. We have the backing of the team behind knightmare.com, the original cast, and crew of the TV show. But we need your help to make this happen!
It's been over 20 years since Knightmare was taken off our screens. But in 2013, two amazing events happened:
Firstly, the fantastic team behind Knightmare Live brought back Knightmare in the form of a live-action stage show.
Secondly, we were lucky enough to see Knightmare return to our screens one more time as part of YouTube's Geek Week event.
We therefore think the time is perfect to launch a Knightmare Convention. This is likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for such a convention to take place, as well as to raise Knightmare's profile and make the networks aware of what a huge following Knightmare still has.
What We Need & What You Get
In order to cover the costs of guests, venue hire, crewing costs, etc. we need to raise £12,159. A breakdown of how the money is to be spent is shown by the following chart:
![]()
We intend to raise the majority of this money by advance selling reduced-price tickets and merchandise for the convention. These, and other perks, will be available throughout our campaign.
Note that you can purchase multiple and different perks. If you wish to upgrade a perk that you have previously purchased, please get in touch.
Perks are ONLY available for collection at the convention itself. If order to keep our costs to a minimum (and thereby reduce the cost to you), we cannot post these out to you.
Events and Guests
As with any convention, we won't be able to confirm any of the specific events of guests until we have raised the money. However, we currently plan to run the following events:
- Q&A sessions with the cast and crew of Knightmare
- "Play a room of the dungeon" - your chance to play a room of Knightmare using the original blue-screen technology
- "Designing dungeons" presentation by David Rowe
- Autograph signings with the guests
- Photos with the guests
- Talks and seminars
- Merchandise and stalls
- The first ever showing of the extended Geek Week episode
- The first ever showing of Lords of the Game, the US pilot episode of Knightmare
- (Saturday Only): "Late Night with Lord Fear"
- (Saturday Only): Music and DJing from Gamerdisco
Currently, we hope to have in attendance:
- Hugo Myatt (Treguard)
-
Mark Knight (Lord Fear; Ah Wok; Rothberry the Apothecary; Sir Hugh de Wittless)
-
Cliff Barry (Lissard; Brother Strange; Raptor)
-
Iona Kennedy (Sidriss; Greystagg the Witch Queen; Maldame)
- Tim Child (Creator of Knightmare)
-
David Rowe (Artist of the Knightmare dungeon)
Sponsorship and Vendors
If you own a company and are either interested in sponsoring the convention or in having a stall at the convention, please get in touch with us!
We can provide advertising at the event, via the Knightmare website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed and to guests during the event.
Risks and Challenges
The convention is being organised and run by Knightmare Conventions Limited. It is this company that will receive the funds and that is responsible for organising the convention in cooperation with EPIC Studios. Our team has a great deal of knowledge of Knightmare and in organising events, including conventions. EPIC studios has a considerable experience in running a number of events - including the filming of Knightmare!
Fundamentally, however, we are group of Knightmare fans. We aren't interested in making any money - the convention is designed to break even. However, in the event that any profit is made, we plan to give this to charity.
If we fail to raise sufficient funds before the deadline for our fundraising campaign, all contributions will be refunded in full by IndieGoGo.
If, after having raised the funds, we are unable to proceed, we will do our best to refund your contribution, prorata our costs to date. Note that at the end of the campaign, IndieGoGo immediately take a processing fee of about 9%.
Questions
When will the convention take place?
The convention will run from the evening of Friday 9 May 2014 to Sunday 11 May 2014.
Where will the convention take place?
The convention will take place in EPIC studios in the centre of Norwich.
Will Knightmare Live be present at the convention?
Yes, there will be a showing of Knightmare Live on the evening of Friday 9 May 2014. Note that the showing of Knightmare Live is charged completely separately from the main convention event. Entry to one does not give you entry to the other.
How will "play a room of the dungeon" work?
You and three other people will be given the chance to play a room of the Knightmare dungeon. One person will wear the helmet and be navigated by the three others through one of the dungeon rooms.
It is currently undecided what the room will be. We expect queues for this event to be long. It is also unlikely that we will be able to guarantee every attendee a chance to play.
What is "ask Lord Fear"?
Simple - send us your question for Lord Fear. Assuming his lordship deems your question to show suitable respect, he will deem to respond via public video. Rude or offensive questions may be ignored or responded to in kind.
What are the "super" tickets and the "priority pass"?
The super tickets differ from normal tickets in that they include a priority pass.
The priority pass gives you priority to the auditoriums for any of the talks or guest sessions. It also allows you to jump the queue for the "play a room of the dungeon" event (once).
What is the "contributors' meal"?
We are giving every contributor to our campaign a chance for dinner with us and our guests in Norwich on Sunday 11 May 2014. For every £5 you donate, you will be given a "raffle ticket" to the event.
Want to eliminate the competition? Our top level "Ultra VIP Ticket" entitles you to come along, guaranteed.
Tell me about the "back stage pass"?
The back stage pass invites you to come back stage for half an hour to chat with us, and our guests, after the main events on Saturday 10 May 2014.
Can you explain "Lord Fear's Midnight Hunt"?
Pledge to this and you get a one-of-a-kind Knight in Norwich. After midnight you & your friends hunt through the city for clues to save yourself & your friends from Lord Fear as he hunts you.
*AND* the entire experience will be recorded live in fly-on-wall documentary style from multiple P.O.Vs (Points Of View).
*AND* the footage is yours!
(Lord Fear hinself conceived this perk and will be assisted by playwright & producer Mark Knight.)
Who are you?
We are a limited liability company named Knightmare Conventions Limited (Registered company number 08921839), which has been formed especially for providing a Knightmare convention. We are made up entirely of fans and crew from Knightmare.
What will happen to any proceeds?
Since we are made up of fans of the TV show, we want this event to happen more than anyone. For us, it's all about getting the event to happen than making money. Consequently, after costs, if we get any profit, we intend to give it to charity.
This is in line with most other conventions. Note that, in practice, most non-commercial conventions actually make a loss or, at best, break even.
What if the target isn't met?
This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If the target isn't met then everyone having made a pledge will be refunded and the convention won't go ahead. Unfortunately, in such an event, it's unlikely that the convention will ever happen.
Can I buy a ticket after the campaign?
It's possible that there will be a few tickets available after the campaign. However, this is unlikely because we need to sell most of the tickets to raise sufficient money to run the campaign.
If there are any tickets left over, we will sell these. However, they will be available at a higher price than they cost during the campaign.
