Motivation
The memory of Steve Jobs is a source of inspiration. His humble origins, personal imperfections and the turbulence of his career make his story relatable; his prolific, world-changing career make his story admirable. Steve Jobs had flaws and was knocked down in his career. He responded by rising to even greater heights: developing life-changing, genre-defining products, revolutionizing industries, and creating billions of dollars of economic value. Steve Jobs put the emphasis on innovation and creating what has never been created. The memory of Steve Jobs is of someone for whom we relate to his lows and can aspire to reach the heights he attained.
Steve Jobs once said he wanted to “leave a dent in the universe”. He lived up to that and had an immense impact during his lifetime. Whether the mark he made becomes indelible remains to those who are still around. We are the bearers of his legacy. This statue will act as a reminder for the preservation of a memory worth remembering.
Why now?
His passing is still relatively recent and the memory still fresh in our imaginations. Now is the time to capture our sentiments and express them before their potency fades through time. This statue is intended to instantiate the admiration we have before we forget.
Additionally, the launch of this campaign is timed to coincide with the Jobs (2013) movie release. We anticipate that the release of the new Steve Jobs movie will likely bring about a spike of interest in Steve Jobs, which indicates that the timing is opportune.
How
We identified world-class sculptors to build the statue. We coordinated with the sculptors who now understand the draft specifications and quoted us on a price. We have budgeted for the statue building, based on the quote, and a number of additional expenses, including the cost of transporting the statue to its end location and of engraving the plaque. The next step is to use this crowd funding campaign to raise the capital required to bring the statue to reality.
Following the fundraising, the contributors to the campaign, as specified in the donation tiers, will be able to provide input and feedback throughout the design process of the statue.
More Raised -> Larger Statue
The size of the statue will be directly proportional (positive correlation) to the amount raised. The project budget is based on quotes for a life-sized statue. However, if the campaign raises enough capital - more than what we could conservatively hope to raise - we'll aim for Statue of Liberty and Colossus of Rhodes proportions :).

This statue will only be built through the help and contribution of others. Please contribute to the campaign; then, please help spread the word, and encourage others to support the vision. When the funding total is reached, please actively participate in the co-creational activities. The next step is a joint one and this project needs your help to be successful.

Frequently Asked Questions
What will be done with the capital?
The plan is to put the capital towards building as big of a statue possible, taking into account other anticipated costs (i.e. transportation, plaque engraving, etc). Any remaining capital will be recycled - by Realizing Utopia LLC, Monuments Series only - for similar projects.
What qualifies you to make this statue?
Not much. We can't say that we have extensive prior statue building experience. We're just huge Steve Jobs fans. We'll work with experts to make this happen.
Where will the statue be located?
We anticipate that the eventual location of the statue will be somewhere in the Bay Area. We will work with the project contributors to determine where to put the statue. We currently intend to hold a poll to determine preferences among campaign contributors on possible locations, and then coordinate with relevant communities to place the statue.
What about other statues?
After conceiving of the idea to build a statue, we performed further research. We came across the statue built in Budapest. We think that Steve Jobs is worthy of more than one statue, and that building a statue here, in the United States, would be fitting.
How can we continue to contribute?
Building this statue will be a team effort. We will look to actively involve contributors during the development of the statue. We are additionally planning an unveiling ceremony, for which campaign contributors will be invited (see perks). Who is behind this project?
We are young entrepreneurs living in San Francisco. Steve Jobs is a role model for us. We admire the work he did, and the life he lived.
