Get to know St. Francis Secondary School
St. Francis is the only school in this inaccessible area of central Kenya which funds education for the poorest children - those who have achieved results to continue their education after primary school, but due to extreme poverty can not pay school fees. Finishing primary school is only the first step for these kids, so this school is their only way into a better life.
They eat once a day and have no running water. During the rainy season, which can be prolonged up to half a year, when the muddy mountain roads turn into rivers, these people are cut-off from the rest of the world.
St. Francis provides students with a home, a bed, daily meal and a quality education.
St. Francis School is in urgent reconstruction need to continue its work; The wooden roof has rotted and leaks constantly which is causing the mud floors of our buildings to slowly collapse.
Moreover, the 250 students that attend St. Francis have no running water. Dormitories have no showers or toilets, beds have no mattresses and the children sleep on rusty iron frames protected with only a thin, worn out sponge.
What we need
We need to rebuild the roof and floors, install windows and doors, and ideally provide running water, proper bedding and school equipment.
We are in need of a rainwater tank, which will provide the school with water and equip the classrooms with school aids necessary for adequate teaching performance.
We aim to equip laboratories for chemistry and physics, renovate the dorms, build showers and toilets, bring running water and buy mattresses.
We are aiming to raise 300,000 EUR in an attempt to fund these construction projects.
Goals
Currently, 250 students are enrolled in St. Francis.
If we complete the necessary repairs, we will be able to accommodate 400 students- a significant boon for young people in this region.
The children of Subukia need help to continue their studies, they need education, a chance of a normal life, and they need our help.
What you can do
Together, we can overcome the obstacles in our way and reconstruct St. Francis in order to provide the residents of Subukia with a higher education and a chance at leading a normal life.
Support us by making a donation of €5 or more. As a token of our appreciation, we'll send you one of our gifts - a tribal leather friends’ bracelets (we have them in ten different colors) or a canvas bag. Together, we can succeed in this noble mission.
