UPDATE: We had a call with farmer Vernon H. Bowman, who was sued by Monsanto, to present him with the money you've helped raise for him.
Here's a recording he made to thank you...
A recorded message from farmer Vernon Hugh Bowman
The Supreme Court ruled that this poor 76-year-old farmer has to pay $84,456 to GMO multibillion dollar food giant Monsanto. Let's help him out - and show our solidarity!
A poor 76 year old farmer, Vernon Hugh Bowman from Sandborn, Indiana had the courage and tenacity to fight Monsanto all the way to the Supreme Court, and says he doesn't have the money to pay the $84,456 he's been sued for. He barely makes ends meet, making do with old run-down tractors and second-hand seed from granaries.
Let's help help this farmer endure this ridiculous debt so he and his family don't suffer any more under the pressure of this evil lawsuit. It's important to stand united and not to let this farmer carry this burden by himself, because he has stood up for all of our rights to not have the world's food supply controlled by Monsanto.
If people rally around him with support it will show that Farmer Bowman's got allies and show that Monsanto has a growing groundswell of enemies.
Let's show how the People truly want our farmers treated.
Let Monsanto know they can’t bully family farms into extinction.
Please share this everywhere you can.
Let's rally together and stand up to giant corporations who want to control our food supplies and our governments.
Yesterday someone on UPRISER.com suggested we "help this farmer pay this ridiculous amount of money. I feel it's so important to stand united and not to let this farmer carry this ridiculousness by himself."
We agreed. So we're starting this fundraiser for Vernon Hugh Bowman, because he had the courage and tenacity in his ripe old age to fight Monsanto all the way to the Supreme Court for all of us, and we ought to show our solidarity with him.
Net proceeds from this fundraiser will go to farmer Vernon Hugh Bowman (Indiegogo (not us) will take 9% plus transaction fees).
UPDATE: We finally got to speak with Vernon Hugh Bowman and he says he doesn't want to take the money, because he doesn't want it to go to Monsanto. He said instead he'd like it to go to a cause aligned with his ideals. When asked if he had a family member who he wanted the money to go to, he said he didn't want that because he thought it would be "dishonorable." So for the moment we have established an UPRISER Vernon Hugh Bowman fund which will be directed by the farmer himself. It could go towards anything from a cause that Mr. Bowman likes, to maybe buying him some seed that won't get him in trouble next planting season. Stay tuned. ;)
Mr. Bowman also would also like some help in a legal matter pertaining to the damages he's on the hook for, so if you know someone who can help him, please email help@upriser.com with "Farmer Bowman" in the subject line.
Your gift goes where this farmer directs it, for his own personal use.
He may still refuse to give the money to Monsanto, and probably will try.
Farmer Bowman might even direct us to give the money to a close friend or family member who is shielded from this lawsuit. They could use the money to support him out of the reach of Monsanto.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us at help@upriser.com
Let's show our solidarity with the poor 76 year old farmer who had the courage to stand up to giant Monsanto.
