We are doing a FILM FESTIVAL!
We are
bringing one of the most renowned regional Film Festivals to Guatemala, and we
are on a last drive funding to ensure we can do it in the magnitude we intended!
Who
are you?
We are FICP (Festival International de
Cine de Puebla). We are an International Film Festival open to everyone and are
the first Festival in Mexico working alongside organizations who take care of
people with social disorders (drug abuse, mental disorder, physiological
disabilities).
We are the first film festival in
history with a section for the visually disabled. FICP are part of a Latin
American Network of Mobile Cinemas; together we guarantee access of people from
all backgrounds and regions to cinema. In only 3 years, we have positioned FICP
as one of the most important Film Festivals in Mexico.
What
are you doing?
From September 27 to October 5 2013,
FICP will hold its first edition out of Mexico. Because of popular demand, the place chosen
for this milestone event is Guatemala. Last year, FICP organized itinerant
projections in Guatemala City, Antigua Guatemala, Coban and Huehuetenango, and
the warm welcoming and response by the Chapines (Guatemalans) ensured a return.
Together with ARTEFACTO, a Guatemalan
non-profit association dedicated to promote the arts in the country, we intend
to promote cinema nation-wide and generate filmmaking jobs. We aim to achieve
this with programs such as “Cine Para Todos” (Cinema for Everyone) which is a platform to discover new talents and
promote tourism in isolated areas of the country. For this year we are
also working with Ttrino Foundation, a society focused on preventing substance
abuse, eating disorders and self-destructive behaviour, and a new section will screen
relevant short films to spread awareness on those issues.
What
do you need?
Organizing film festivals in Guatemala
is extremely difficult. Due to the absence of a national film entity, support
for projects such as ours is close to non-existent.
This is why, with 40 days to go, we have
decided to start a 25- days last drive of donations to ensure that the First
FICP Guatemala will happen at its full potential. The festival itself is not in jeopardy, but
some of its most expensive parts are, such as bringing reputed filmmakers from
overseas and the planned workshops to train aspiring Guatemalan artists.
Hotels have to be booked, venues have to be arranged and educational material
has to be printed.
We have tried normal funding methods in
Guatemala, but we haven’t still reach the necessary amount to
assure that we can run this festival to its maximum potential, so now we are
reaching out to you and the internet to keep our dream alive!
¡Porque el cine lo hacemos todos!
What
can I do?
You can do a lot! Either you can donate
a few dollars to the project (Check the list of perks to the right), or if you
can’t at the moment, you can always share
this with your friends and tell them about us. And, if you happen to be
in Guatemala during the festival…. Bienvenido!
