Nuestra historia.
En el 2003 la
Librería Barco de Papel abrió sus puertas cerca de la popular Avenida
Roosevelt. Lo que empezó como una librería más enfocada en los libros
infantiles se fue adaptando a las necesidades de su público y poco a poco fue
adquiriendo su propia identidad. Y es que ese pequeño pero peculiar espacio ha
resultado ser un lugar esencial para la cultura en nuestra ciudad, un espacio
que lo ha dado todo. La Librería
Barco de Papel es algo especial, forma ya por mérito propio el honor de ocupar
un lugar en la historia cultural hispana de esta ciudad de Nueva York.
La Librería además de ser
un establecimiento de venta de libros en español y en inglés, es un
lugar alternativo que durante diez años se ha convertido en el punto de
encuentro de artistas, poetas y escritores. Barco de Papel ha acogido
también diferentes propuestas culturales como programas de teatro para jóvenes
(apoyados por las escuelas del área), cuenta-cuentos para niños, tertulias, micrófonos abiertos, talleres de
poesía y literatura entre otros. La librería es una voz
para los jóvenes artistas contemporáneos y los ya establecidos en la
comunidad de Nueva York.
En este contexto con su
ayuda permitirá que este espacio siga siendo
un polo de desarrollo del conocimiento en nuestra ciudad.

In 2003 Barco de
Papel bookstore opened near the popular Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, New York. What began as a bookstore more focused on
children's books was adapted to the needs of their audience and gradually took
on its own identity. That little but
quirky space has proved to be an essential place for culture in our city, a
space that has given everything. Barco
de Papel bookstore is something special in its own way and has the honor to be
a place of the cultural history of the Hispano-American culture in New York.
This place besides selling books in Spanish and English is an alternative place
that for ten years has become the meeting point for artists, poets and writers.
Barco de Papel has also hosted various cultural programs for youth like theater
(supported by area schools), children's storytelling, discussions, open mic,
poetry workshops and literature. The bookstore is a voice for young
contemporary artists and those already established in the community of New
York.
It is our goal that Barco de Papel will remain a pillar of knowledge, and one
day a landmark, that celebrates and preserves the Latino Culture in our community
and city.

transición planificada de nuestro modelo de operación actual a una
organización Non- profit, también conocida como organización sin fines de
lucro.
Si bien de estos conceptos se puede aprender y usarse con eficacia, sin
duda, reconocemos que con el modelo Profit (lucrativo), hemos
enfrentado muchos retos y un ambiente de constantes restricciones de recursos.
Barco de Papel, has started a planned
transition from our current
operating model to a Non-profit organization. We undoubtedly recognize that with the profit model we have faced many challenges and an atmosphere of constant resource constraints. We need to adopt a single model that fits correctly to
our work. While these concepts
can be learned and used effectively, your
help is essential in this
