Help Us to Build A School and Bridge the Digital Divide...
In just over a week I will be traveling to Africa along with a volunteer film crew, and others to work on a variety of projects at the Light of Hope Home & School in Naivasha, Kenya. Fundraising efforts are ongoing to complete the construction of a permanent school campus, housing for the girls, and a library / clinic for both the school and local villages. This project is for the specific focus of bringing technology to the school.
As part of the developed world we've experienced the benefits of the Internet and digital technology. In Africa however, less than ten percent of the continent’s population has access
to the Internet compared to over 77 percent of users in the United States. By improving internet access and use of technology at the Light of Hope School & Home the students will gain access to the
most important commodity in the modern world: information.
I've been blessed to have a career in online media and work for some amazing companies. I look forward to bringing my expertise to Africa to benefit these incredible girls in Kenya and help provide a brighter future for them and others to come.
What is Light of Hope?
It is a home and school to 50 girls, aged 4-17, in
Naivasha, Kenya, which provides refuge, restoration and redirection to
the lost and homeless girls who have become victims of society. The
girls at Light of Hope are given a safe home, emotional and spiritual
nurturing, a quality education and career development. All of this is
provided to ensure that they become successful, contributing members of
society. For more information, go to https://www.lmiafrica.com/
Imagine...
... two young girls, ages 3 and 5, hungry and abandoned in the
cold, left to wonder where their mother went, but never to find the
answer.
... a young girl, age 10, raped by her own father and is no longer safe in her home. She must seek refuge somewhere else.
... a young girl, age 9, watching her mother die a little more each
day from AIDS - and having no idea what will become of her when her
mother is gone.
Sadly, this is not an imaginary world and these are not made-up
stories. These are the stories of a just a few of the 50 young girls at this school in Naivasha, Kenya.
Each with their own story of pain and suffering, but within lies a
common denominator — they were all rescued from an abusive or hopeless
situation and brought to a new home called Light of Hope Home and School
(LMIAFRICA.COM).
Each of these girls, without Light of Hope, faced a bleak future
and were destined to follow in the path of their parents — a path of
poverty, abuse, disease and despair. But because they were rescued and
redirected at Light of Hope, they have been given a chance to be
educated, learn life skills and heal their hearts from the damage that
has been done. They have been given a chance at a future.
The Goal.
I'm looking to raise $3,000+ to create a Technology Fund for the Light of Hope School. Funds raised will be used for the following technology projects:
- build a computer lab & and purchase educational software programs
- ongoing development of a technology curriculum for the school
- making improvements to the current Light of Hope School website
- purchasing photo and video equipment to enable the girls to share their stories
