Did You Know
More than 2 million tons of medical waste is generated every year from American hospitals. More importantly, of these 2 million tons, much of the waste is often discarded due to cosmetic damage or strict US regulatory standards, and is still serviceable in other parts of the world.
In effect, the simple act of salvaging and redristributing this material could help prevent millions of the child mortalities that occur every year in developing nations because children are deprived of access to adequate medical resources.
Objective
Our objective is simple: to collect surplus medical equipment and supplies. They will be distributed to pediatric centers in Africa.
How It Works
By partnering with MedShare (www.medshare.org), an Atlanta based 501(c)3, and the Children of Africa Foundation (www.childrenofafrica.org), we intend to:
- Solicit hospitals and manufacturers in the United States
- Load the items into a tractor-trailer size shipping container
- Arrange for the delivery of this container to the Ivory Coast
Goal
Our goal is to send at least one shipping container. While it will cost approximately $22,000 to sponsor an entire container, each container will contain over $150,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies.
For every $1 donated, almost $7 worth of material will be delivered.
Please join us in our efforts to fill the gap between surplus and need!
