Who are we?

• we are two graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava in Slovakia, Slávka and Milan. We share together a passionate interest in drawing and so we have decided to found a magazine about contemporary drawing called X. Drawing is a phenomenon of present. We are observing an increased interest in drawing on artists today and feel the need to record and reflect it. We are trying to understand this trend and provide it with sufficient space for the presentation and discussion.

 About the magazine:

• magazine of contemporary drawing called "X" is a platform focused on drawing medium. It provides space for the presentation of contemporary drawings and allows the theoretical reflection.

We try to:

• make a map of forms of drawing in Slovak art scene and create an overview of current events. Our aim is to document and present exhibitions, authors and emerging works, workshops, competitions and other activities which belong to the contemporary discourse of drawing. We are trying to fill the existing gap in its expertise in Slovakia.
• we open a scientific discussion, it is a source of important information for theoretical and artistic community.

What is inside:

• each issue focuses on a specific topic. The magazine consists of two parts. First part presents the subject in the form of essays from invited theorists. The second part presents the visual works of contemporary authors in the form of high-quality reproductions in the form of loose sheets. An important element of the magazine is an interview with the artists, providing deeper insight into the issue. A practical overview of current events and activities related to drawing in Slovakia and the surrounding area we will add at the end of the magazine.

The aim:

• is to focus the attention primarily on the Slovak art scene, while creating a constructive analogy with foreign authors to provide a picture of the current drawing in Slovakia in the context of the surrounding countries.

X:

• the symbol and the name of the magazine are two crossed lines, representing one of the most basic drawings at all. This pictogram has many connotations and forms of exploitation, represents a specific point in space, the correct answer, expresses disagreement, goal, error or disagreement. That´s why we chose it for the brand of our new magazine.

 What do we need:

• At the moment we have completely prepared the first issue of the magazine, which is waiting only for its printing. Through your financial contribution, we would like to pay the printing of the first two issues of the magazine X. Other issues will be hopefully funded from the sale or donations.
