WHY WE ARE MAKING THIS FILM:
Between 1935 and 1952, Marsha acted in in 55 films, two Broadway shows and was a popular actress in the early days of radio and television. She started her acting career as a leading lady in all of these mediums. Then came her brush with the blacklist.
In a recent NPR interview, Marsha told the reporter that her biggest fear was that she will be remembered for being blacklisted and not for the work she did as an actress. We the fimmakers know that this is just not true! She is known and loved as an actress and the steady flow of fan mail that she still receives is proof of this.
What many people don't know about Marsha is that she has been an activist and "planet patriot" for over 65 years now. She was one of the first in Hollywood to use her "celebrity" to raise awareness for causes that needed support such as world hunger and the work of the United Nations.
Marsha is a role model to many – as an actress AND an activist. The film will show other activists and those who care about the planet who may be feeling “helpless” in these uncertain times that there can be a positive result of their dedication. Her story, told in her own words, demonstrates how one person CAN make a difference.
This film will show the audience how just one act of generosity can have a “ripple effect” from generation to generation. We believe that HER story will INSPIRE a new generation of activists. As a matter of fact, you could say this film is "A CALL TO ACTION”.
Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Sean Penn and many celebrity activists today are creating such positive and profound changes in the world. Please support this film that recognizes and celebrates the legacy of a woman who was an "early pioneer" in the field of celebrity activism in America!
