THE STORY – Mind-bursting as you like it
One can argue about the many things our heroine Martha might or might not be. But right now, what she is for sure is a damsel in distress. Captive of an international criminal organization, she awaits for an unlikeable hero to save her. Because this "hero" might also be many things, but he is certainly no Bruce Willis. Nevertheless, this is his fantasy, and since Martha is inside it, she has to play along.It is in the end, for a good cause. You see, this average Joe is actually in a coma. His mind is shut-off, and only Martha and her key can help him recover, by creating and sharing his greatest fantasy.
Martha can deal with strange, epic and freaky, but she was not prepared for the fantasies of her next “customer”. To the world, a beloved husband and gentleman. However, in the inside Martha will encounter a tortured and twisted mind of a batterer. But of course, our heroine will realize this far too late. Will she escape before healing him? And if she doesn't, what will she do having to confront the man's wife?
Either way she will have to make a decision that will change the way she sees humanity.

Nice to meet you (if you don't know me yet). My name is Adrian Morales Ramos and I am a filmmaker. I have lived and worked all over Europe (France, United Kingdom, Germany) and now I am at the cradle of film: Los Angeles. In 2010, thanks to my previous work, I was awarded a Talentia scholarship in order to pursue my dream of creating films. They have covered my Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking and now that I am about to graduate at the New York Film Academy I want to share with you my thesis project:
"Martha's Key".
Martha's Key is but the creativity and work of an extremely talented bunch of people brought together, which I am lucky enough to call my friends. They have done an awesome job and they all earned my eternal thanks for what they have done for the film. It’s out-standing how much love and effort and brilliance they invested into this project. And they have done it under the hardest circumstance: low-budget. This project has been financed thanks to my scholarship, family support, bank credit and the selfless effort of the bunch mentioned above. However, there is still some work to do. And that's when we come to YOU. We shot it last October and now you can help us in the last big step: Postproduction and the Festival circuit.
“What WE NEED” and (far more important) “What YOU GET!”
Our crew worked for a long time (2 months of pre-production, rehearsals, rehearsals, rehearsals, one whole week of awesome shooting). They did it for FREE because they are nuts or as they say: because they believe in the story we are telling (but let’s be honest you have to be a bit crazy to give so much of your work and your free time to help a young Spaniard to pursued his dream),(although, they all looked as if they were enjoying making this happen).

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO:
Postproduction. We have Visual Effects, CGI, sound, music. Even if some professionals offer their help for free, we still need to rent equipment and studios to achieve a professional result that will take us to our next step.
Festivals: Short films lives lie in festivals. That is where people can see them, and why we do them. There are many free festivals but many others have an application fee (from 30$ to 60$ or more). Sending it just to 10 festivals would be around $450, and we believe we can participate in dozens of festivals around the globe.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR
Especially when you are willing to give a bigger amount of money I understand you might be interested in more information on the project and its costs. So here is some (feel free to contact us with questions you may have).
At the New York Film Academy, we are very lucky to be able to use a variety of equipment for our films. That’s the reason why we were able to shoot the movie with the RED Epic camera.
Let me explain this is little more detailed to those of you not working in the film business. The RED Epic camera is by far one of the best alternatives to traditional film. It guarantees a stunning quality at a moderate price (in comparison with traditional film being a high risk in quality AND costing [money per second]. Directors like Peter Jackson use the RED Epic camera for their movies. As there had been 48 RED Epics being used to shoot the Hobbit!!
So you can have an idea, here is also a list of examples of expenses already covered:
Equipment transportation.
Lunches and Crafting. – You wouldn’t believe how much a crew of more than 20 creative minds can eat during a shooting week!
Locations and Permits. – We shot inside a soundstage and outside in Downtown Los Angeles, The different inside locations had to be built, painted, decorated, broke down, re-painted, re-decorated, etc. Shooting outside with fake guns requires a police officer around to make sure nobody believes there is really an epic fantastic showdown happening…
Insurance. For the equipment, our cast and crew.
Costume and Props.
All of this has been paid the scholarship (that should actually feed me…), my family and a friendly bank credit. All of it has to be paid back. It will be hard but I am willing to do so because I believe in “Martha’s Key” and I believe in the people that worked on the project with me.
WHY?
Where does "Martha's Key" come from?
“Martha's key” is the combination of both the artistic and technical vision I have as a filmmaker and the kind of social issues that I want to communicate about.
For the last years, I have been experimenting in the different levels of reality that come from human subjectivity: how we see the world when something (or someone) appeals to us in the deepest levels of our soul. Being in love, being obsessed, being fascinated, being scared; the silver screen allows us to share feelings and visions in ways other arts cannot even start to grasp. I am not talking about how to tell a story, but about what we feel when we are told a story.
Previous to film school, my work was always revolving media journalism: TV, news, new media and documentaries. I believe in human curiosity and the duty of communication: informing and being informed in order to know beyond our individual boundaries. I believe in learning and discussing.
Now, I would like to approach those issues to audiences that would normally avoid all contact with “based on actual events” stories, to approach an audience that can enjoy a genre fiction and come out of it thinking of what they have seen, heard and felt. Stories that entertain and give you something to reflect on without the feeling of have been preached.
So after a lot of thought, and some inspiration; a story came up. A story that forges my two parallel passions in a way, I believe, can both affect and communicate with a wide audience. “Martha's Key” is a story about an unresolved subject as old and human as society: domestic violence, (and all that the subject involves: injustice, abuse, victims, the fragility of human mind and behavior, and many more). Martha's Key is a story told from the perspective of someone who has come to live others’ wildest dreams and fantasies. A genuine good (but human after all) soul who sought her place by helping others find theirs. A story of someone who was not expecting to encounter such crude reality, as we all do. A story paved of good intentions, from naïve dreams to horrific corners of the human mind.

LA HISTORIA - Enrevesada como a tí te gusta
Se pueden decir muchas cosas sobre nuestra heroína Martha, buenas y malas. Pero en lo que estamos todos de acuerdo es que ahora mismito Martha es una damisela en apuros. La encontramos secuestrada por una organización criminal internacional, a la espera de que un inusual héroe venga a rescatarla. Inusual porque, de este héroe también podríamos decir muchas cosas, pero una cosa es segura: no es un Bruce Willis de la vida. Pero bueno, eso no importa mucho, porque ésta es SU fantasía, y ya que Martha está inmersa en ella, le seguiremos el juego. Después de todo, es por una buena causa. A ver, me explico, este tipo fondón con sueños de grandeza está en coma. Su mente lleva meses apagada, y sólo Marta y su llave pueden ayudarle a recobrar la consciencia, reconstruyendo su mente a través de compartir sus mayores fantasías.
Y es que Martha ya está acostumbrada a lo extraño, a lo épico y a lo ratito. Pero para lo que no está preparada es para su próximo "paciente". Un hombre que de cara al mundo es el perfecto caballero y un muy querido marido. Sin embargo, nuestra heroína descubrirá(más tarde de lo que ella quisiera) que este hombre encierra la mente retorcida y torturada de un maltratador. ¿Podrá Martha escapar antes de que su intervención lo cure? Y si no lo consigue, ¿cómo se las arreglará al enfrentarse a la desconsolada esposa?
De una forma o de otra, Martha deberá tomar una decisión que le llevará a cambiar el modo de ver el mundo y el ser humano.
EN RESUMEN
¡Hola!
Encantado de conocerte (si es que no me conocías ya de antes). Me llamo Adrián Morales Ramos y soy lo que a los "yankees" les gusta definir como "cineasta". Básicamente, llevo dos años haciendo y respirando cortometrajes. Antes de eso, he vivido y trabajado por toda Europa (Francia, Reino Unido, Alemania) y ahora vivo en la cuna del cine: Los Ángeles, California. En el 2010 obtuve, gracias a mis trabajos previos en televisión y documentales, una beca Talentia de la Junta de Andalucía para que persiguiera mi sueño de hacer películas. Con ella, estoy a punto de acabar mi máster de cine en la Academia de Cine de Nueva York y es por ello que quisiera presentaros mi proyecto final, mi tésis que la llaman aquí:
"Martha's Key".
Martha's Key no es más que la fusión de la creatividad y el trabajo de un puñado de gente con talento a las que me considero afortunado de tener a mi lado y llamar compañeros y amigos. Han realizado un trabajo más que impresionante (yo diría que acojonante, pero igual esta web me censura) en este cortometraje, por lo que se han ganado mi eterno agradecimiento. No hay palabras para expresar cuanto amor y esfuerzo han invertido en este proyecto, y todo bajo la mayor de las presiones: ser un cortometraje de bajo presupuesto.
Este proyecto lo he financiado gracias al dinero de mi beca (del que también he tenido que comer), el apoyo familiar, un prestamillo al banco, y sobre todo por el trabajo desinteresado (gratuito, vaya) de todos sus participantes (el puñado de gentuza del que hablo tan mal unas líneas más arriba).
Sin embargo, aún queda trabajo por hacer. Y ahí es dónde entras TÚ. El corto está grabado (lo grabamos en Octubre), pero ahora necesitamos tu ayuda en el último gran paso: la postproducción y el circuito de festivales.
"QUÉ NECESITAMOS" y (más importante todavía) "QUÉ CONSIGUES TÚ A CAMBIO"
Como ya hemos dicho, muchos han puesto ya su trabajo y tiempo libre (2 meses de pre-producción, ensayos, ensayos y más ensayos, y 7 apabullantes días de rodaje, 12 horas cada día). Lo han hecho GRATIS porque están como una cabra o como dicen ellos: porque creen en la historia que estamos contando (pero seamos francos, hay que estar un poco loco para apoyar al chavalillo este a cumplir su sueño) (aunque, todo hay que decirlo, lo dicen sonriendo y todo el mundo lo pasó de p**a madre haciendo esta pelo realidad).

Postproduction. Aún nos quedan, efectos especiales, corrección de color, efectos de sonido, mezclas, música original. Incluso si encontramos gente que lo haga desinteresadamente, necesitamos alquilar equipo especializado y un estudio para conseguir el resultado profesional que nos lleve al siguiente punto:
Festivales: Los cortometrajes viven de festivales. Es ahí dónde pueden verse, y el porqué los hacemos. Todos esperamos que el esfuerzo que hemos invertido sea recompensado con risas, lágrimas, aplausos y, sí, premios. Hay multitud de festivales a los que es gratis apuntarse, pero muchísimos otros (los más reconocidos) cobran una inscripción que de media va desde los 30$ a 60$. Si lo enviásemos a sólo 10 festivales, pagaríamos 450$… y la verdad es que pensamos que este proyecto puede llegar a docenas de festivales por todo el mundo.

En los tiempos que corren, los "beta testers" reciben una clave para utilizar software y videojuegos antes de que éstos salgan al público.
Al ayudarnos, se te permitirá acceso desde YA a todos los pasos del cortometraje. Podrás ver como vamos implementando los efectos, el sonido, la música, los cambios que hacemos en las escenas y el porqué.

Una de las razones de esta campaña es la de conseguir fondos para enviar el corto a festivales. Cómo ya sabes éstos cobran entre 0$ y 90$ (o más) sólo para la solicitud, sin compromiso de proyectarlo.
Si llegas a este nivel, eliges un festival. Ese festival es TU FESTIVAL. Si el corto es seleccionado, te daremos acceso como parte del equipo . Sesiones de preguntas con otros directores, estrenos, etc.

Una imagen vale más que mil palabras. Sin embargo, a veces, una sola palabra en el momento adecuado puede significar un mundo.
Personalmente creo que el guión es la esencia de una película y me gustaría compartir una copia impresa del guión contigo.
Además, puedes elegir una pieza de atrezzo (cualquier cosa que los personajes usen en la película): estrellas ninfa, puro habano hecho a mano, cuadros, lo que quieras. Si no era alquilado, es tuyo. Con sangre falsa seca si quieres.
