Short Summary
We've commissioned 6 playwrights to write new short plays based on the works of Edgar Degas. These 6 new plays are being presented at The Den Theatre (1333 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL) in a festival called "Master Works: The Degas Plays" on May 29 - June 1, 2014.
Playwrights: Matt Beard, Rachel Bykowski, Jackie Davies, Spenser Davis, Cassandra Rose, Julia Weiss
Directors: Wm. Bullion, Jonathan Goldthwaite, Tiffany Keane, Kacie Smith, Abby Stark, Ginny Trover
Famous for capturing female dancers and playing with unusual angles, Edgar Degas influenced several major modern artists, including Picasso. Now, Commedia Beauregard calls upon the Parisian painter to inspire six new plays which translate his works to the stage.
Six award-winning playwrights and six amazing local directors compete for the awards of "Best Translation" and "Audience Favorite"

The Company
Commedia Beauregard is a small professional
theatre company in Chicago, Illinois.
We have been around since 1999 (starting in
Minneapolis/Saint Paul) and have put up 30 productions over the last 14
years. Since 2011 we have been HQ'd in Chicago.
Here's our mission statement:
"Our mission is to translate the universal
human experience to the stage: to expand our horizons and share knowledge of
all cultures, translating between languages and between arts to create theater
that is beautiful in expression."
What does that mean? Well, normally we do
plays that are translated from foreign languages into English. Sometimes
we experiment with what it means to translate, and we end up with a play based
on a painting, or a ballet based on an essay. The Impact
This project involves 24 Chicago-based artists in total: 6 Playwrights, 6 Directors, 12 Actors
By supporting this project you bring their work to 70 people per night in live performance. You also make it possible for us to publish the script in book form so the plays can be read and enjoyed for years to come. And a published script may even lead to other theatre companies doing the show elsewhere someday!
