Toby's Legacy Equine Rescue is a pending 501C3 incorporated March 31, 2012 located on 10 acres on the border between Temecula and Hemet, California.

Marley is a beautiful, intelligent and loving unpapered thoroughbred who has been in recovery for 8 months.

After arriving emaciated, she is at her ideal weight, is doing beautifully with her training and has recently been made available for adoption.

On the evening of Oct. 9, in the pouring rain, Marley was apparently laying down out in the pasture, separated from the herd, and was attacked by a mountain lion.

She was not found until the next morning and is badly injured.  In addition to claw marks on her back, puncture wounds and lacerations all over her neck and legs, the vet suspected her leg was broken.  Thankfully it was not broken but she has countless stitches and will require a lengthy recovery.  From the scene of the attack it appears she put up a good fight and we are happy to report the mountain lion has not returned.  We did report the attack to Wildlife and Game who promised if the mountain lion is captured it will not be killed but relocated.

Marley needs your help to defray expenses so that she has all of the time and assistance she needs to recover.  Amazingly she seems to have no lasting emotional damage.  In spite of the pain and stiffness, she is not jumpy and remains as sweet and loving as ever.  The vet suggested we put our donkey, Donkeyote, in with Marley while she recovers.  Apparently donkeys are fearless fighters and can be relied upon to defend her while she is vulnerable.

All contributions will be used strictly for Marley's recovery.  In addition to the emergency vet visit, xrays, stitches, wraps and medications, Marley will need ongoing veterinary care, clean dressings every couple of days pain killers and therapy.  We will update her progress here regularly but we invite everyone to visit our Facebook page for the daily information about Marley and all of our other rescue residents.

Marley is truly beautiful with a wonderful temperament and is so willing with her trainers.  She is the perfect candidate for a forever home.  All financial contributions are tax deductible and will be deeply appreciated.  You can also help by using the Indiegogo share tools to spread the word about this campaign, our Facebook page and our website.  Our mission is ongoing.

10-16 UPDATE

Marley is doing much better.  She has been contained in the round pen as opposed to our large paddocks and she seems restless.  Today Lisa changed all of her dressings and she is healing very well.

She popped several stitches but that was to be expected.  Still looks so much better and no infection.

Lots of cold water rinses help too.

In addition to vet visits, antibiotics and meds. each change of dressing runs about $25 so your continued support is needed and deeply appreciated.

Kisses from all of your friends who are missing you.

Marley with her old friend Gatsby who now has a forever home.  She's our Miss Congeniality.

10/29/13 Update

Marley continues to recover.  It was necessary to keep her as still as possible but she has been so restless.  She is now back in the herd.  The tears and punctures are healing well but the vet noticed she lifts her front feet almost as a trained show horse would.  Turns out she has a lateral extensor tear in her left front tendon and she is compensating as her foot would normally drag and she would trip.  She is beautiful, has the best energy, and is so intelligent and charming.  Looking for a like-minded person who would welcome her into a forever home.

11/1/13 Update

It is predicted that Marley's tendon tear will take 6 months to a year to heal but she seems unfazed.  There is a bump where the tendon is torn and she had developed some proudflesh but her remarkable recovery continues.  Please see our Facebook page for the video of her racing around with Buffy, Donkyote and the herd.  I tried to import the video but this program will not accept anything imported from Facebook.  Or at least I spent 2 hours trying and failed.
