Short Summary
Michael Hubbs is a speed skater with his sights set on competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics. After overcoming the challenge of being deaf, he is determined to not let any obstacle get in the way of acheiving his goal.
Selling every item he owned, including his car, Michael paid for a one-way flight to Salt Lake City, UT, so he could train at the Olympic Oval.
In August 2011, Michael participated in the Desert Classic competition at the Utah Olympic Oval with the goal of setting personal best times. In the 500m, he shaved five seconds off his personal best time, and in the 1500m, he shaved 13 seconds off. He then won the overall bronze at the Eastern States Championship in September, and first place in the 500m at the American Cup that following month. He is grateful to the sport for changing his perspectives and helping him do something meaningful with his life.
In February 2013, Michael participated in a US National competition in Milwaukee, WI. He received Gold in the 1500m, Silver in the 500m and 2 Bronzes in the 1000m and 3000m.
His next major competition will be in March at the North American Championships/American Cup Finals in Salt Lake City, UT.
What We Need & What You Get
Michael needs your support and donations to help fund his training. He travels all over the country competing in skating competitions and it can get quite costly for flights, accomodations, etc. Michael also wants the best training he can get, so that means extra ice time, top coaches and trainers. He also has hopes to train in Japan for 2-3 months over the summer. $60,000 is what it will cost for a full year of training including the trip to Japan to train.
Michael would love for you to come along on this journey with him. In return for your kind donations, Michael will give you shout outs on his social media sites and in interviews. He will send you autograph pictures and t-shirts. You even have a chance to meet Michael in person as he will fly you to his training facilities and the US Olympic Trials in Salt Lake City.
