Who are we?
We are the Mills Robotics Team 253 (MRT) who participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). We are a team of roughly fifteen high school students who have found a general interest in robotics and engineering. Every year, starting on January 4th, we have six weeks to design, build, program, and test a robot that we eventually take to the competition. We could not be more proud of this years robot, which we have appropriately named "Scorpion". This year we are taking Scorpion to the Sacramento Regional on the UC Davis campus. We expect to do better than ever, but we can't do it without your help!
This year, we ended the age old rivalry between Mills High School and Capuchino High School by helping them set up and build their robot as the Capuchino Robotics Team 5023. We worked together nearly everyday during the six week building period in order to teach them the basics of FRC.
What do we do?
Not only is being on MRT educational, but it is also exciting and fun! Our students spend countless hours developing and producing robots to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
Our students learn how to:
- Participate in a team environment.
- Design and implement complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic designs.
- Meet important deadlines by working together toward a similar goal.
Participating in the Mills Robotics Team allows students to get a head-start on the professional world of engineering.
What We Need & What You Get
As a small robotics team, we are completely dependent on donations, whether they consist of money, robot parts, or help from others. Every year, we take our new robot to UC Davis or San Jose State University for the Sacramento Regional and the Silicon Valley Regional. Attending each of these competitions costs roughly $4000, and the remaining money that we have is spent on robot parts. When you donate to us, you receive the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped students benefit from STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). You will also receive the great perks that we have set up to thank you for your kind donations.
The Impact
MRT provides students with experience in the engineering field, allowing them to apply their technological knowledge in their future careers. Our students have been able to go on to work at different companies all throughout Silicon Valley, the technological capital of the Bay Area. Our main goal as a team is to give our students a place where they can learn about engineering in a friendly and welcoming environment.
In the future, we would like to cooperate with other teams in setting up FIRST Lego Leagues at local middle schools in order to further promote engineering and mathematics.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you would like to contact us with a proposition for another type of sponsorship, please contact us at either mrtteam253@gmail.com or yyung@smuhsd.org.
Every year, we request electrical parts, mechanical pieces, and tools that we use to build the best robot we possibly can. If you prefer to, you can send us some of these parts instead of sending money.
A list of parts that can be donated is located on our website:

If you would like to donate something that isn't on our list, please contact us at the emails above.
