THE BACK STORY
Hi, my name is Felicia Morris. I’m also known as The Poetess, a 25-year radio vet and new media enthusiast. About a year and a half ago, I set out on a mission to launch Radiofreqz.com, an Internet radio network. With the support of family, friends and even strangers, we successfully raised $11k and began looking for a small office space with just enough room to fit a table, a couple of mics and a console board. After several months of searching for the perfect location, my good friends, Danielle and her husband Courtney, came across an old vacant recording studio in Leimert Park and suggested I take a look. The moment I stepped foot in the place, I knew there was a bigger purpose…bigger than just starting an Internet radio station. This was an opportunity to create many opportunities for people who aspire to create their own content. A professional facility where clients with limited resources can host and produce their own Internet radio and TV shows and a fun place for students to learn and engage in new media technology.
Although the monthly lease was more than I had budgeted for I could not pass up the opportunity to try and build something great in the Crenshaw community. Two weeks after my initial visit, I decided to take a leap of faith and I signed the lease! Now we are on to the next phase of the big dream and that is to get the studio equipped so that we can get up and running.
I humbly invite you all to become a brick in the wall of this great venture by donating, sharing and believing! Thank you!
ABOUT MORRIS MEDIA STUDIOS
Morris Media Studios is an 1800 sq ft building located in the Leimert Park area of Los Angeles. It has 3 soundproof studios designed to record, produce and stream audio and video content. The studio will have a video green screen room, visual radio streaming and audio production. MMS will also offer recording and editing services for voice-overs, audio books, podcasts, radio and TV commercials.
Additionally, our intention is to serve the surrounding community by starting Morris Media Lab, a non-profit organization that will offer after school and Saturday workshops to high school students in the areas of broadcasting and digital media. We will also support other non-profits by offering an online outlet for them to promote their specific causes.
